Flash git. But boy, that's ugly for an Akrapovich!
Then ragged it down to Ambleside and up The Struggle (ooh er missus etc):

And up to the Kirkstone Pass:

What they don't tell you is there were 2 accidents
Then ragged it along Ullswater:

Then ragged it back to Keswick along the A66, then A591, A595 and home.
Rag rag rag rag rag rag rag. Is your camera time correct? Shows your Filling Station photo at 5:19pm.
If so, I may have passed you today on the A595. I was heading North at 4:30 or thereabouts and passed a black Street Triple heading South, around Bothel. Ragging it by the sound of it

Suprised - even if you pay 41 grand for a super-shiny, top-spec bike, they still don't bother to fit a half decent tail-tidy in the factory . The cheek of it . |

It is. They do look a little better I think when seen in the flesh; I like the silvered black paintwork for instance. But yup, no getting away from it, they ain't pretty! ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

Not mine but took a Triumph Thruxton R out for a demo:
https://s32.postimg.org/e6xnoze9h/Thruxton_R.jpg
This was a follow up the R nineT Sport demo I took earlier this year, basically to see whether I think I could live with this kind of bike (a naked retro sports bike) as a runabout and for more leisurely rides. And to see just how much substance there is behind the sporting pretentions of these models.
Both bikes handle well for what they are, but the Thruxton definiely has the edge in that regard. It's a tall, narrow bike compared with the short, squat BMW, and it feels much more sporty and agile for it. More comfortable for me too. The suspension is firm and compliant. Only when pushing it hard does the twin-shock rear lack some composure, but that could probably be dialled out. It's no match for a modern sportsbike in the handling stakes, but it's certainly good enough to have a lot of fun. The brakes were amongst the best I've used on any bike, as you would expect with the Brembo monobloc calipers.
Unfortunately, the engine just doesn't live up to the promise of the cycle parts. It isn't as strong as the BMW, by some margin. Where the BMW redlines at 8500rpm and pulls very well right up to (and slightly beyond) that point, the Triumph starts to fade from 6500rpm and redlines at 7000rpm. It's not even particularly grunty down low to make up for the lack of strength up top. If you're on it, the useable power range is 5000-7000rpm, so many gear changes are required to keep it on the boil. Not what you'd expect with a big capacity, water cooled bike.
I don't know what it is about Triumph, but they're often very conservative when it comes to engine tuning. Whether it's for the sake of user friendliness, or reliability, it means that they often can't compete with their peers on performance. The Thruxton R is a case in point. The Speed Triple is similar example. Apparently there is (or will be) a race kit available for the Thruxton 1200 to replace the cams, exhaust silencers and air filter, which adds ~20bhp to the bike (for a lot more money, and a voided warranty). That's where it should be in the first place.
So, both the BMW and Triumph are capable but flawed, for different reasons. And in ways that I couldn't forgive for bikes costing ~£12-13k. XSR900 next? |

Didn't take any pictures in the Wye valley other than of this huge old church or cathedral but you can't see anything from the picture.
