Cheers Vincent, only just seen the ebay listing an missed it
tried to pop the barrel off last night using a similar setup to yours an all I achieved was a hole in the piston
My setup is basically the same as yours except i used a bar of brass (1/4" thick) tapped with 8mm bolt which screws through the bar to the piston with the idea of just popping the barrel off
After i "holed" the piston, the only thing i had to put under the bolt on top of the piston was a 50p coin - which ended up with a 8mm hole through the middle of it (dont tell the queen)
any ideas anyone!!? |

That was my fault for giving OP ideas without explaining the method properly What you could have done with, is some sort of block on top of the piston.
It's not the end of the world as the piston would be scrap anyway I'd have thought, (along with a good few other parts), it just means thinking of something else to push against if pulling the barrel off rather than trying to pry it off.
It may be "misson impossible" to get this poor machine back in running order, (although I've seen similar and even worse restored), but as OP states early on, stripping down something like this is all good practice and fairly educational, and if the barrel's not too bad and hasn't had too many rebores already, it must be worth a few quid, same with the frame and engine cases if there's a log book. ____________________ Space Is Deep |

yeah i think there is 6 or 7 of em
piston that i holed, is a 0.75 so looks like its had a rebore at some point, but what 2 stroke hasn't?
another thing is i don't know if its stuck in gear as well as i couldn't move the selector at all - if that would make a difference....suppose it would if your trying to move the crank
I do enjoy a bit fo challenge but this is getting a bit heavy!! |

not bad for £20 for the two of em
big bits im still to find:
tank
oil tank
metal work for mud guards
possibly replacement forks stanchions - mine are rusty but high up not by the sliders
millions of bits n bobs
I can see the tank being a bit of a struggle... |
What size are the forks?
I've got a spare set that came with my XL125 basket case, they look straight enough, the tubes are 31mm dia, if they'll fit your DT you can 'ave 'em. They'll need new seals etc. But AFAICT they're good to go and can't be much different from the DT forks.
I can't give you any more details just yet, I'm a couple of thousand miles away, at the moment.
Some intense Googling might reveal some info.
I can get 'em down to the BBQ if you're attending!
Ha, just seen your profile, we could meet up halfway, if that's easier! ____________________ "Everybody needs money, that's why they call it money!" |

Awesome cheers Sid!
Will try an measure mine tonight
Cheers Fester, Mine is a 175MX which has an internal (plastic) oil tank. these don't seem to come up much.
I have found Germany has quite a few bits..
Just a bit worried that it will be the wrong part as there seems to be loads of different variants of the bike |

Swingarm has arrived an its slightly different to mine
Weirdly it doesn't have the "sticky out bit" for the drum brake to grab on, or disk brake mounts....even more weirdly there are no signs of either of them being ground off |

Cheers, to be honest im enjoying the hunt for parts at the moment, there seems to be plenty of them around an it is possible to pick up bargains
like that swingarm was £25 it looks crusty when i got it, but shot blasted it in an work now it looks a tiny bit less scabby
Im in no rush to get it built, i still need loads of parts anyways - tank, oil bottle, air box etc..... |
