Well today tired to fired it up and no joy. Its simply very hard indeed when its cold.

So I moved on to clearances.

https://www.shaunboundy.co.uk/project/12thjune/20160612_201241.jpg

only got this far ran out of time, wanted to measure the shims but the cam chain tensioner was been stupid need to make a key or something.

anyway the results are below.

https://www.shaunboundy.co.uk/project/12thjune/20160612_213244.jpg

Well this may explain some of it. All but one Intake are out of spec. The last one is 0...lol

Only the last one on exhaust is out.

Also redid compression tests. So currently my efforts on fixing the cylinder are not looking so good thus far.
cylinder 1 and 4 have gone up.

https://www.shaunboundy.co.uk/project/12thjune/20160612_201246.jpg

Lastly the new tank pad.

Just found out its not stock needles jets. Im guessing Dyno stage 1. This may explain a few things with fuel mixture.

Just hook the seat under the tank and squash the rear corner of the seat forward to get the bolts in. good work getting it running.

This. It may require a bit of pressure to 'fold back' the corners of the seat, but don't worry.

Congratulations on getting it running. However, from experience with 90s Fireblades, that doesn't sound right to me. It should hunt a little on tickover, but generally it should sound turbine smooth. Like this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iaYE28LE7a0

It could just be your microphone, but yours sounds very rough, as though one cylinder isn't firing, or isn't firing with the same force. Have you balanced the carbs?

Cylinder 3 is only half compression. Look back and you will see why. Good ear through.

Ah. I assumed you must have sorted that to put the bike back together. Are you going to take the engine back out and apart?

The only thing you could do is full re bores and over sized pistons. I don't feel it is worth it for its age plus the fact you can't remove the cyclider head without breaking the case.

So, you're going to run it like that? Is that sustainable? Genuine question. I'd have thought that it would be down on power, run like a dog, vibrate, and probably deteriorate?

I've pondered the question I don't have the info to answer it and I can only hope.

Well it turned over right away today but, sounded horrid and died again I can only imagine the mixture is incorrect. This also I think was combined with a piston slap. I didn't warm it up to find out if the sound went away.

It's your bike sir so do with it as you see fit, but running it with compression loss that bad isn't a good idea. Plus you won't be getting the full 'Blade experience if she's down on ponies!
