What do we do? We realise religion is for people with mental health issues.

Perhaps find arguments that aren't paraphrased quotes taken out of context?

The Koran/Quran started out on a translated version of the bible anyway.

As Dawkins said, a bad man does bad things, a good man does good things. For a good man to do bad things, it takes religion.

OP's list of quotes sounds like the kind of bullshit that you'd find on Donald Trump's twitter feed, but having seen the state of the nut cases in this country It's probably the bollox put about by 'Conservative Christians' - a bunch of extremist arseholes who ram Christ down your throat whilst proclaiming their right to shoot the shit out of anything they fancy, about as Christian an attitude as Stalin showed for his people.
Christianity is big business here, trouble is many people don't seem to realise that the chap they follow was a pacifist who encouraged his followers to love their fellow man.

Religion is just a tool to control the masses. It's role in the society is not as important as it used to be in the middle ages, but it is still somehow present. I don't mind people having their believes. But, some are just wrong and denying indisputable historical and even scientific facts and that is when I start to think religious people are mental. Thumbs Up

- Jehovah's Witnesses letting their children and relatives die, because their book forbids blood transfusions.
- Religious people brainwashing their children that have no say in this.
- Radiciliased religious people killing in the name of thousands of years old book.
- Jews cutting off their foreskin, because someone found an old medical book and made a custom of it.

And so on... now ask yourself, is it worth your time and effort figuring that out? Also, as it has been pointed out, all the books you talk of are just translataions and/or interpretions of the books/stories prior to ''yours''.

Quite the same thing the Christians did not that long ago, though. All the crusades and killing in the name of a (even back then old) book. Surrender and worship our God and saviour or die in hell, used to be the motto back then, or something rather similar.

For some (radicals), relegion seems to have the same or even greater power than the laws of their own or any other country. The problem with laws is, that the law makers have to keep up with the developing society and reflect the needs of people in jurisdiction of such laws. Religion just does not evolve and when it does, it's only very slow and mild changes that very rarely happen.

Let's say the Bible was based on a 3000 B.C. story of Horus, Egypt. That is 5016 years. Imagine you'd use laws this old today. Imagine you'd use 50 years old laws today. That sure would be fecked up. Thinking

Christians have the New Testament with Old Testament being for the Jews or showing the history of where it came from and why it is the way it is now.

Back 300 years ago it was fear that ruled the religion, but Christians moved forward as did women's rights anti slavery and all that jazz. Certain other religions have actually gone backwards from the 1,000 years behind it already was.

It's all daft anyway.

You're doing that thing that people do where they conflate religion with culture and society.

You can say western culture moved forward, worked on issues of women's rights, slavery etc, but it's a bit too broad and certainly misplaced to say Christianity moved forward.

Otherwise what's Kony up to with his 'Lords Resistance Army' of child soldiers and rapists in the Congo?

This was done in the name of Christianity: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lord%27s_Resistance_Army#/media/File:Gulu_women_-_cut_lips.jpg

So let's not talk about religions moving forward because they absolutely don't. Societies move forward. Hence some Christian countries are good while others are still absolutely fucked.

What Percy says, the possibilities of interpretation of any religion are so wide, that everyone can find what he needs to support his actions/convictions.

I was mistaken - it was actually Steven Weinberg:

Steven Weinberg wrote:
Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
