The French are big on symbolism and the burkini is a symbol, shouting loud and clear about the wearer's beliefs.

This is a symbol of a faith that states gays, atheists need to die and anyone drinking alcohol need to be flogged. A faith that promotes and spreads inequality and segregation and that everyone else needs to conform.

And there is violence that comes through this faith. An extreme buddhist or Hindu is extremely kind. An extreme Muslim clearly is the opposite and someone wearing a symbol of this in Nice of all places is communicating an extremely stupid message.

Attacking islam is illegal (a hate crime) so muslims should respect the fact their medieval message is also illegal and more than undesirable in developed countries. Removing the symbol is the right thing to do and if someone wants to practice their medieval set of beliefs on a beach of all places, thats fine and they can do it in Saudi. Lots of sun and sand over there.

Denied

Not that I have the least bit of sympathy for them, but I think it would have been counterproductive.

The Burkini ban that wasn't eh?

Muslim women cover themselves at the behest of male muslims who oppress women in many other ways under the pretext of "islamic faith".

Imposing a discredited ban on these women is as bad.

Oppressing the already oppressed? C'est mal. N'est pas?

It was overturned a day ago. There is no ban. OP posted "Yay Ban" when there was none.

It may have been overturned, however it's been in force since 2009!
Which begs the question, WTF has been happening in the intervening 7 years.

CBA follwing the link above, but if it's implying that the recent incident was a set up, then I'd agree. Or are we supposed to believe that a randomer, by chance, just happened to photograph the whole encounter? Rolling Eyes

Some of the towns' leaders have vowed to ignore the court's stopgap ruling and to continue to ban the symbol of oppression and antagonisation.
I reckon that that makes it an affair that is current.

Was watching the news and a woman was dressed as a normal person, sleeveless t-shirt and shorts on the beach, but she said if she could she would wear the body sack and mask. Odd I thought.

Can we ban those bloody stupid rasta hats while we are at it?

Cluck off, the content not the title. You may find it distasteful, doesn't justify that.
