A big-bore top end and spanny pipes were ever popular.

Big bore kits are available commercially for not much money. Cubes=ponies. It doesn't sound much going from 49cc to 60cc but it is more than a 20% increase in engine capacity.

A quick google reveals:

and

Skim the head to decrease the squish & raise the top of the inlet port & transfer ports by about 2mm

Cut the rotery disc valve back, both the leading and following edges but not by much. This inscreases the amount of time the engine can take the mixture in for. Also try opening up the exhuast port up a bit.

A good de-coke will also help the bike no end, it always did with mine. Try and find an expansion chamber made by allspeed as these often had little or no baffles in.

Check out www.fs1e.co.uk for more tuning info.

Or you could spend less and buy a faster and more reliable 125.

na theres actually some fun to be had tuning these if u already have a big bike. Balls rapped round ure arse 60mph screeming it for all its worth, crap brakes and handeling make it very intersting!!! An old classic 70s moped much fun to be had thrashing it, not like those gay scooters.

If you go on the fs1e forums, there is a tuning guide that has been posted up. I think it may be beeline racing or similar, which tells you how much to port it, to change the gearing etc. Worth a look.

fit a YB100 engine as it will fit in, and that will give you 10ish HP.

Get an expansion pipe made up! I remember talk on fs1e.co.uk of somebody getting the measurements for one and having a few made up by a specialist. TBH i dont think mine made much difference from the older standard pipe probably because i didnt change the jetting. I had an indecated 62mph out of mine once the rest of the time it would just scrape 55ish which is about normal for a standard old style fizzie. Best off doing a bit of porting work and try cutting the disc valve back abit. Big bores are a no go really unless you fancy putting a new big end in every few months, the engine unless you have re-biult it wont last long with a big bore.

Keep us informed on your fizzy tuning as I am interested to see how it performs once it has been tuned. Should be fast once it has a nice big bore kit on. I hear some do 55mph stock so tuned they should fly. I would love to see the look on the scooter boi's faces when you blow them away. I did once consider getting a fizzy myself, but they turned out to be quite expensive. Good luck tuning the little beast Thumbs Up

I have a Micron on mine, and it doesnt make a lot of difference, apart from the look, and noise.

So, are we still looking for answers? or has this thread had it's day?

With some of the cheap pattern big bore kits, the porting is so bad, it makes the bike slower. So, i went with an overbored genuine yamaha cylinder. Running it on the same setup as before, and only a slight improvement.
Does the carb need re jetting/ and if so, which size jet?

ok so im new on here but i thought id share this important tuning info with all of you
i used to have one when i was a kid of sixteen many aeons ago and later palyed with the motors , if you want power there is a way
firstlyu let me explain the port sustem partly the side ports int he barrel carry a flow of gasses across the piston side to side this is responsible for midrange power
there is also a port on the rear face of the barrel this is where it is interesting i had and have looked at many of the engines they are all resticted wait i hear you cry my 77 is unrestricted WRONG!! all of them have the same problem if you could call it that, the port on the rear is there but blocked at the casing if your brave remiove the barrel and file away the casing to the shape oif the gasket or better still use marking ink (bluing) to match the hole on the barrel with the case remove the alloy the rear port will then giver you top end ..ever noticed it seemed breathless and wouldnt quite rev out well it will after ..could somone let me know the top end before and after thanx ..happy tuning ps all the opther things are less of a tune than this coulple just this and a pipe ..dont mess with the valve unless you really know what your doing you can as my friend did make it misfire and work less well

Surprised This has waited long enough for a reply. Which port are you referring to? And are we still talking about FS1E barrels?
