How about automatically locking threads once they've aged to, say, 4 months without a reply? Or 3 months? Something to stop ancient threads reappearing.

I'd say 3 months is a little short as you get the moaners who moan about old threads bering brought up, yet you get other members complaining that a certain topic has been covered before.

You can't have it both ways... if you stop old threads being raised then people will moan about folk starting new threads on old topics.

He meant, 3 months without a reply Wink so it wouldn't still be active..

I think it's a good idea.. threads should be locked after about 7-8 months of in-activity... (automatically) at least then they won't be dragged up.. and that solves that problem.. I think then the forum should accept that people will always post new topics on old subjects, whether the previous threads are locked or not..

I say lock old threads and accept that people will always re-post!

What a sensible suggestion.

What's the problem with letting people reply to old threads? If someone wants to reply to an old thread with nothing useful to add then I'm sure they'll catch onto it quite quickly and if people want to post something like that then if they can't then they'll find something equally constructive to add elsewhere.

I don't think they should be locked, but maybe they should have an 'old thread' symbol on them? Like an hour glass or something?

Old Thread Alert!

The last post was made 19 years, 25 days ago. Instead of replying here, would creating a new thread be more useful?
