Does anyone here live close to or in the Biggleswade area?

Looking to move somewhere where I can at least get a garage and 3 beds without giving up my life to a mortgage.

Live in WGC but looking to move, not too far, but further up the A1.

Just wondering if anyone has experience of living in or close to Biggleswade and how you find it

I'd move just a bit further up to St. Neots or Eaton Socon unless of course you're a fan of soul-less modern developments near a Harvester pub and a retail park, althoug closer to the town centre might be better. Budget?

Cheers A100man, budget max £375k, 3 bed. Ideally now though aiming for around £350k due to mortgage rates.

I will still commute by bike at least once a week on the bike, train if very cold and icy, so don't want to venture too far from London but I guess people commute from St Neots

Looking for somewhere with country side close by although all the towns up that way back onto country side but hoping for something a bit interesting

Heres an decent solid looking 70s house on a good plot ..

https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/139292789#/

Sandy centre is no more than a villlage I'd say, most of the pubs have shut recently including the only decent Alehouse - The Peel (according to my work colleague who was a regular), but it has a train station and plenty commute from there - walkable too.

Actually Sandy surprised me here, better value that St Neots which has some pretty nasty offerings in that price band. There are though a host of new builds there 360k ish on the Eastern side out to Cambridge, but these seem to be squeezed onto tiny hateful plots these day.

That looks alright but think we will need to look at some of the newer builds around Kings reach. We will be moving as number 2 is born so need something to move straight into.

Any idea what some of the new developments are like around there? Safe etc.

Hmm you're asking the wrong person to be honest., IMO new builds offer poor value for cramped houses and plots. I dropped a Google man on Kings Reach and I saw narrow roads (typical) inadequate parking an cars/vans with one wheel on pavement to allow traffic to pass.

The Sandy house linked is on a much more generous street/plot IMO and looks habitable. BUT I understand that's only my view and testy* wives can have a significant influence.. all down to preference and lifestyles I guess. Social housing can affect an area simply because no-one cares for their property. I'd be checking that out in your shoes.

I live about 10 miles west so no direct knowledge but my workmate moved to near there though cos his Mrs wanted a 4 bed detached. no real issues as far as I know bar the odd dope smoking teenager.

* I'm sure yours is fine Wink
