Suzuki isn't starting.
It felt a bit funny the last time I used it. But the last time I used it I wasn't on it long- I went to get fuel, but then couldn't get the damn tank cap off...
I've started it twice since just for fun but both times it started fine as usual and then conked out after 30-45 seconds and not starting again.
Been unable to start it since though, other than the odd fire rotation.
Got fuel, got spark (is consistent and patterned too) and compression. Will be checking timing- It's contactless electronic so there's no real reason (bar transistorised CDi based ignition/box succombing) that timing can change, unless perhaps the woodruff key has broken.. Time to check. ____________________ CBT: 12/06/10, Theory: 22/09/10, Module 1: 09/11/10, Module 2: 19/01/11

Something I've never done in all my years of riding...
...forgot to put the oil filler cap back on after a top up.
The CBF has always used a little oil and requires occasional top-ups. These days I maybe check the level once a month and add a little if necessary.
I did a typical top-up and put away the bottle of oil, put on helmet and gloves, started the bike and headed off. I only got a couple of hundred feet up the road before I realised I didn't remember screwing the filler cap back on. Looked down to see the open hole jizzing little spurts of oil up my leg.
I pulled over immediately and expected to have to go searching along the road for the cap. I'd left the cap resting on the top of the crankcase cover, but it was miraculously still exactly where I left it.
A few splashes of oil on my trouser, boot and the bike, but otherwise got away with it. Early dementia I suspect. ____________________ 2016 CBF1000F - Commuter heaven | 1994 CBR600FR - Awaiting defibrillation |

Offered up my newley acquired GP100 carb (VM22) to the A100 (puny VM20) for the juvenile ambition or Moor Powah!
It doesn't fit it the case space
I knew there'd be mods to make but this require hacking the clutch cover about to a point of no return.. ebay not flush with clutch covers to buy either..
.. bugger. ____________________ Now: A100, GT250A, XJ598, FZ750

I think the A100 was only good for about 60mph at it's very best. Most times more like 50-55. The most I saw on the clock of mine was a heady 63mph on a cold evening. My friend's GP100 was much more sprightly. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'
132.9mph off and walked away. Gear is good, gear is good, gear is very very good |

Yeah that sounds about rght - after some teenage 'porting' on the exhaust port, a bigger pilot and main jets and some slight trimming of the disc valve I've seen consistent flat-on-the tank 65+ but not broken the 70MPH barrier.
When you look at the GP100 carb and the A100 carb side by side its obvious that is 'carb'd for the commuter'. 12HP vs 9HP I think
The Australian 'bucket racer' A100s (up to 17HP!) have that part heavily modded to accept a bigger carb, something I'll not do until I can source a replacement/extra clutch/disc valve cover. See below..

Pulled the gen side crank seal off the A100 using the drill/screw method..
.. wasn't stuck hard so relatively easy to pull. kept a close eye on the swarf, wiping as I went and scrutinised the area following removal - ..
and.. made some blanking caps for the missing XJ fork tops from 35mm plastic tube bungs two quid for four. ____________________ Now: A100, GT250A, XJ598, FZ750

Wrangled the throttle body back in place and decided to send the bike to a garage to be fixed. I haven't the skills to diagnose never mind the spare time nor working space....or the skills.
Fix it sell it...same goes for the other which I can fix.
Then save save save. Build a new shed, already have my eye on the next bike...which I'm keeping quiet for now but already a tad giddy about. ____________________ Diabolical homemade music Bandcamp and Soundcloud

Sent the Suzuki off to the mechanics in the back of a van for a bit of a look over since it was shunted by a car the other night.
Saw some video footage of it actually happening (my next door neighbour has CCTV) - it made my stomach turn over, the fucking car nudges it and it wobbles but doesn't fall over, just got nudged from parked at a 90 degree angle to about 35 degrees instead.
However, it does looks like the front end might be a bit bent though, as the mudguard is definitely out of alignment. I didn't want to risk riding it to the mechanics so I got them to come and get it.
I'm waiting on them calling me back.
Having the Harley collected next week as well, that's due an MOT but its got a misfire/backfire that I've been avoiding dealing with for *months*. With a bit of luck they will have to order parts and it will be nice and cosy in their shop ____________________ Not nearly as interesting in real life. |
