My old 250 Majesty is fun but I wants a bit moar scooty powah for motorways
and have been musing over getting a second hand Suzuki Burgman 400 or the Honda fjs600 Silverwing.
I know it's supposed to be quick but I'm dismissing the silverwing cos there are not a lot about and the mpg figures are no better than my car.
The Burgman has a simpler engine and it seems to be more common and better for new and second hand spares and accessories.
The mpg figures are a decent compromise too.

So fess up to your sins if you had or rode one for any significant length of time
I'm not interested in ton up machines just the general ride, reliability,
fuel economy, upkeep and servicing.

I know
Typical of the blinkered philistine attitudes one has to expect from the piss stained nasty rassis biggits here
writhing in jealous agony at my move upmarket to self improvement, nice clothes and classy scootys

I'd flounce but they're not worth it.

I've had my Burger on the interstate more than a few times. Keeps up well enough. Max I hit was 88 GPS and it still had room for more. It really loves to cruise at around 55-60 the most. MPG is usually low 60's, but I do a lot of city riding.

Not vibey, very comfortable. I weigh 280 and once the clutch engages it pulls pretty good.

I've put a Malossi clutch and bell on mine, with white springs, and 21 Gram sliders in the variator.

Mine is a 2012 and I'm closing in on 30,000 miles. I use it to do Doordash/Uber Eats and usually do around 120 miles a day.

Thank you

60mpg US =72mpg UK
MPG has many variables but that's not a bad average at all

Can't say I've had one for more than a couple of weeks at a time, but used to use one as a courtesy bike when the pre-Divvy XJ900 was in for work, it was used for 10-12 hours of constant city/suburb/motorway (orbiting Birmingham, basically) and I had no issues. Comfortable even at 200-300 miles in a day and handled everything with aplomb. This was a while back, so no idea if there are updated engines/models but I was happy enough with it. Preferred the XJ but the weather proofing at speed was surprisingly good and much to my surprise it was actually pretty planted on the motorway and at speed.

Thanks
I was looking at Burgman 650 project but decided not to go for that.
The 650 is great by all accounts but far more complex than the 400's so
buying a second hand one could easily turn into a money pit.

The 400's are pretty common and fairly straight forward technically
which to my mind makes them a better SH option.

I've had three 400s, one 400X, one 400Y and the first post-400Y designation that I can't remember the name of.

All were reliable, the X and Y versions threw oil out of the crankcase breather when hammered, the later one did not. You have to keep an eye on the dipstick on those early models, or else they'll seize. If you do, they can easily achieve 100000 miles.

They're all great at 80mph motorway cruising; you'll arrive at your destination not only relaxed, but dry - the fairing from the earliest models on is great at diverting the worst excesses of the British weather elsewhere.

The 650 is indeed a potential money pit, primarily because the transmission isn't a simple CVT rubber band job. Although they are nice to ride and go well, I would avoid unless the purchase price is like three digits.

Good luck!

Thanks all
I'm somewhat busy with other projects atm but will no doubt mull over
getting one later on when less distracted.
