Recently have acquired a low mileage Honda Hornet and looking for help with upgrades. I am looking for a rear shock replacement or a rear shock from a different model bike that will fit. Any other tips about the bike are appreciated.

A set of linear springs the correct strength for your weight and riding style can work wonders and will compliment your new shock. Then a couple of hours setting up your sag front and rear.

I'm a huge fan of brembo SA brake pads.

I like wilbers shocks.

A set of good tyres. Road 6 are good.

A complete service because previous owners invariably lie so fluids, filters and plugs. Run some fresh hydraulic fluid through the brakes.

EDIT: Check the rear brake disc closely with a good light for hairline cracks running from the drill holes. Replace if seen. OEM honda discs of that era were prone to it.

I plan on going through the entire bike this winter, stripping it down and redoing anything that looks suspicious.

Right now I am looking at getting either Race Tech or K-Tech springs to rebuild the forks and trying to find a rear shock that doesn't break the bank. So far YSS and Hagon have come up in terms of budget. I will look into Wilbers shocks.

Luckily the previous owner put a pair of Michelin's on so they'll get me through this season before needing replaced.

Thanks for the tip on the brake disc, I'll take a look.
