Currently my old 1983 XJ550/600 has three keys, one each for ignition, fuel, and seat.

I'd like to make them work with one key and I've successfuly removed the barrel form the fuel cap and with some old wafers made it work with the seat key - great now only two keys!

BUT it seems that I have two key types .. type B left hand groove for fuel and seat, type A right hand groove (when looking from the key twist 'handle') for ignition..

Is that how theye were sold? or is there a possibility to get a 'Type B' barrel for the ignition?

All this sounds like the typical mismatch that happens to many bikes
over the year as locks/keys get damaged and lost.
In my experience ignition barrels are the trickiest to swap out with the tank/seat ones being pretty easy.

With this in mind and wanting a 1 key system
I'd want the tank/seat keys to follow the ignition pattern
As long as the t&s keys had the same profile and would work mechanically,
I'd even consider removing the wafers to make them a 'camel lash' as there is virtually no security to speak of in these locks anyway.

My old CX tank cap looked lockable but you could open it with a nail file or screwdriver
and it was never an issue worth rectifying
