Feel free to tell me to shut up but I've seen how site sponsors work very well on another site - www.600rr.net.

Basically these companies pay to advertise on the site, and in turn get their own section on the forum. As well as generating money for the site, it gives the users the chance to get some really good deals on bike bits. A user can name something they want to buy and see who can offer the best price. These vendors offer very good prices because of the extra custom and often offer deals on group buys.

Their customer service is always top notch because if it isn't people let it be known in their forum section. So it all works very well for all parties, but in a very unobtrusive way to the rest of the forum.

I expect you have already seen this in action on various forums, and have reason for not doing it. Just thought it might be an idea.
