Is pipelining bumming the forum?

Ever since someone posted the tips about speeding up firefox... The server won't allow searching half the time now! Sad

I mentioned that in another thread. I think it is, hence why I stopped using the pipeline trick a while ago.

I'd much rather click "view new posts" than have to load up every single forum and check through.

I noticed that too after speeding up firefox, which is why i like to leave firefox as it is. (Its still a hell of a lot faster than IE as standard)

Plus, firefox generally isnt very good with forums anyway...

How about search bots, there seems to be alot of guests on at any one time. Maybe you could deny certain bots using the robots.txt trick? BCF is well known as it is. Smile

Pipelining is not very good for forums, same with precaching and many other "web accelerator" type tricks.

Searching through the forum is quite intensive and ties up the database, which is why the search script shuts down to prevent the rest of the forum slowing down at peak times.
