This is getting serious now. As a 31 year old who semingly has been in the wrong job (printing ) for the last 6 years as the industry has gone completely down the drain. I now find myself out of a job.
Should i apply for the police ?

The alternative seems to be wqorking as a call centre monkey for £11k.

Depends if you really want to be in the police.

Is there an age barrier?

Will you be fit enough?

Why not, money is better than a call centre, promotion prospects
are good. Personaly I wouldn't like to be a beat copper (imagine rounding up p**s heads on a saturday night).

However there are lots of specialist areas in the police, which must be very interesting and rewarding.

Answer the following questions:

Arrow Do you want to lose all of your friends?

Arrow Do you want to report your mother for her tax expiring yesterday?

Arrow Does a uniform give you power?

If yes to any, then the police is right for you! Thumbs Up

Yeah as much as people say they hate the police, at the end of the day its a job. 9/10 coppers are coppers because of the good job prospects. Not so they can be cocks.
Go for it! Thumbs Up

The main problem that you will have is twofold. Firstly, the police don't recruit that often so you will probably have to wait a fair while before you can even apply. Merseyside, Cheshire, Lancashire and Greater Manchester are all not recruiting til the end of this year at the earliest - I work with someone who is also looking to join the police when she can.

Secondly, as Craig will verify, once you apply, the selection procedure takes ages too. If you get through all the various interview stages I think it's about 6 months from first applying to actually getting accepted.

You're going to have to find something to do in the meantime unfortunately.

I think before joining the Police you will have to work out if you are 31 or 32.

Depends what area of the police you want to join. I've just been accepted as a trainee fingerprint officer and I just turned 30. But people aren't lying about the length of time getting the job takes - I applied last June!

I don't know about other forces but Strathclyde police seem to be doing a massive recruitment drive at the moment - ads on the TV and everything.

If you don't just want to be a 'policeman' but are perhaps interested in a support role (this covers all sorts of stuff - forensic, admin, IT, analyst etc.) then check out all the different forces websites. https://www.police.uk/forces.asp They all advertise for support staff there, and there is usually a reasonable variety of posts going. For example, right now Greater Manchester police are looking for amongst other things programmers, a forensic image analyst, intelligence analysts, and a fingerprint officer! (my job lol)

Well worth having a browse and a read of the job descriptions, see if anything seems interesting.

If you can live with yourself being a trained monkey and enforcing a law by violence you don't necessarily belive in, nevermind being inherently wrong and immoral at times.

Personally, i'd rather stick razor blades up my arse.
