Being away from my GF for long periods of time!

Well As for anyone who works offshore, being away from your family and the ones you love is quite a hard thing to do, Im currently in denmark and have been for nearly a month and im missing my girlfriend like hell. Also she is pregenant so i worry about her a lot too and i worry more when i am offshore than when i am at home obviously, Paranoia (spelling?) Was a bastard on my first trip too

Anyone else have trouble with being away for long time from your gf or wives?

Anyone have any cures for wanting to phone her all the time and to stop thinking about her 24/7. I tend to sing a lot cus everyone has ear defenders and no one can here me but then i sing songs that make me thing of her lol.

Oh well its a shite feeling but alas i have to work,

Wouldn't say its as long as you but OH is away week at a time.....thats hard enough and we are both fairly crap at it! With no signs of that improving!

All you can do is "keep busy" not sure what distractions are available to you but internet is a good one.....are you not able to catch up on MSN at all?

Any chance of changing career? Big thing I know but if she is due to sprog soon, she will need you around and you could miss the most special bits of your kid growing up? Can't replace those.......

I eat chocolate in copious amounts that helps! - and sometimes write down what i am feeling if feeling crap,....never actually send it but helps to get it out type thing.

Yeah I dont want to miss my kid growing up and me being only 18 my life is moving at 1,000,000 miles per hour.

Yeah we talk on msn or i phone her when i can but its hard and we usually argue about it cus im always away but we need a house and furniture and stuff for the baby so i need to work, I shouldnt be this stressed at my age, but i love her more than anything and i justy want everything to be secure for when the baby arives.

I know we will survive...

Firstly well done to you for comiting yourself, geting a decent job, and making the best of the situation. There are many that would come on here and whine about every decision they had to make

It must be very hard being away for long periods of time, especially with her being preggers. Just make sure the time you do spend with her is made the most of.

Life is hard with a new baby, even harder at 18. If its what you want, and you keep at it no matter what, it will all work itself out.

In denmark right now, yeah it is pretty unusual at my age but the money is ace so i cant complain

its crap being away from the one you love, but is DOES make you a hell of a lot stronger and closer in relationship terms....if trust is there, you are on a winner..she will realise you are doing this to lay the foundations for a good life

I was in the RAF for 4 years and engaged for 3 of them.

She was in Manchester, and I was in Birmingham. Not too bad. Then I waet to Lossiemouth near Inverness, and then Marhan near Kings Lynn.

It was hard, but we both loved each other and knew it wouldn't be forever. It was worth it though. I left the RAF about 18 months ago, and we marry in July.

Stick with it mate. Write more than phone. A letter takes longer than a call. You won't fall out in letters, and can get your true feelings out. A phone call can easily lead to an arguement and can cost a shit load.

It'll be worth it. Get the money, you'll need it when you set up home with the little 'en.

Its not an easy thing to do, being away from your other half. It must be very difficult for you, especially when you are so young, and still learning how to cope with your emotions. Follow the lead of thousands of sailors/riggers/prisoners etc who have huge quantities of lonely time on their own:

Find yourself something to occupy your time whilst offshore (knitting, stamp collecting, wanking, playing the drums/bass guitar/nose flute) ... that way, when you ARE at home with the little Mrs and the sprogs, you'll have something to take your mind off all those little irritations that family life brings.



Seriously ... find yourself a hobby, kiddo. But not one that takes up so much of your time (like internet porn for example) that when you ARE home, your Mrs complains you don't give her any attention. Cos an unhappy young wife with a bunch of screaming kids hanging off her ankles is not conducive to a good relationship either.

You have a lot of time to yourself right now, cos you are isolated. So make an effort to learn how to divide your time effectively between your family, your job and your interests (and your trips to the bank with a wheelbarrow, if you are earning serious wedge, LOL, well done)

There's a million things out there in the world that you can get interested in - and it gives you something to do when your dick's sore from shagging the Mrs when you get back on-shore.
