It is going to get used , a lot ,because I feel that they were made to be rode and should still be rode , at EVERY show it goes to it will get to go around the arena for around 10 mins(with me riding it) ,also it is going to be put on the road later on in the summer ( tax exempt and classic insurance so will be really cheap) and me and my dad will take it out on NICE days for a few miles , it's only 200 cc so we will have to take it easy and nice and steady , it will only go around 15/20 miles up to the ponderosa up in llangothlen and back, think that distance to up is ok for the bike ? And we won't go verry fast at all.

I think people who own classic bikes and plan never to ride it should not own classic bikes as it is a HUGE waste, they were made to be road and thats what they should do.

I have now got all this back together , I have re-used the original reflector and the original light and light cover , as I think it is part of the bikes history so they are staying.

Remember to hand paint the registration number in authentic wobbly white paint with plenty of brush marks.

BUT IT WOULD HAVE ! Very Happy

If I had any petrol to try and run it.

It had a nice BIG blue spark , so I think that with some petrol in the tank it will fire up tomorrow Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile
And be able to be rode by the end of the week (although the seat will need recovering but that does not affect it running.

Doh!

The 1st time that I put the bike back together again and it turned, fired and roared is a nice warm and cozy feeling.

Good luck mate Thumbs Up

I always feel like there should be more of a ceremony when firing up a freshly rebuilt engine for the first time, especially if you've never seen it run. It's amost like a religious experience.

Somehow taking a prolonged pause between switching on the fuel and kicking it over in order to light a rollie doesn't seem to do it justice.

Remember to wear your big kicking boots, don't tickle it too much and don't be a pussy. A British 4-stroke single never started easier for being kicked over gently in defference to its age.

Remember to ensure your mechanism for STOPPING the engine is in place and functioning properly before you try to start the bike. The time to find out you forgot to refit the valve lifter cable is not when it fires up and immediately starts redlining.

You remember to put oil in it? Wink

:kicking boots, check , killing mechanism ,check, oil ,check, going to get petrol now :check.

And I have rode it before I stripped it all down Smile
A bit strange with a left footed brake but its easy once you get used t it.

And when I was using it before the rebuild , I always started it by bump starting it as it was easier , this won't do any harm will it ?

Bumping should be fine. Keep the clutch covered though and be ready to kill the engine at the first sign of a funny noise.

As I say, I've seen newly rebuilt engines suddenly decide they're going to revv off the top of the scale before. Usually due to operator error (eg. carb slide in the wrong way round or a poor seal round the inlet manifold) but possible none the less. I've certainly done it myself before.

You don't want your first go finish with a first gear wheelie into a wall.

Just a quick one triggered by you mentioning the fuel leak. Beware of running it without the bellmouth.

My mate didn't fit it on his BSA A7 chop and look what happened (Spat back and ignited the fuel overspill from where he'd tickled it.):
