rather than routing it through the ground where someone might put a spade through it when the decking is no longer there, how about routing it above ground along a fence or something ?

hmmm, the death of a future owner of your home, or tidyness.

I hope you disconnect the underground cable if you ever sell the house.

It will take much more than a spade to penetrate a SWA cable, running along a fence is fine but it still has to buried to at lest 18 inches and either covered by capping/ducting or wrapped in bright yellow High voltage warning tape.

col what are you talking about its perfectly safe to run it threw the ground. How do you think it get into your house ?

even if he did manage to put a spade threw it which is quite hard since its steel wired armored the rcbo/rcd depending on what they have will trip. Rcd or rcbo are designed to trip when theirs over a 30ma imbalance between live and neutral. e.g. if you put a spade threw it. I'm not 100% on this but i'm lead to believe 30ma is a "safe" figure to get shocked by. I've had a shock off 240v before without a rcd and i don't think i died
