Bracket was £70, cheapest i could find at the time. I did cable tie the clocks on to the original front subframe for a test ride. Ill be using it occasionally on the road as it is though so I wanted a speedo.

I also wanted to keep the brake light for the same reason. It took a while with a shitty little underpowered dremmel but I cut a space for the light to sit.

The seat cover has come. Didn't take long and it looks like new. One of my favourite things so far Laughing

Before;

https://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh163/adam673673/Mobile%20Uploads/20160719_190406_zpset0intpe.jpg

After;

https://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh163/adam673673/Mobile%20Uploads/20160721_183702_zpsyyoiqzdw.jpg

The rearsets have come. They seem up to the job. Fitting the brake side was a little tricky and although they supply the little bracket for the brake light switch there doesn't seem anywhere for the spring to go that operates it. After trying various different ways to get it to work I gave up and left it off for now. I'll come back to it before its MOT next year.

https://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh163/adam673673/Mobile%20Uploads/20160723_080948_zpsx2w1mpfs.jpg

Right, on with the vinyl. I do wished I sprayed.

My garage has no power to run the heat gun (a borrowed hair dryer...) so I wheeled it in to the living room. I live in a new build house so lovely wide door frames!

As i said before I really wanted a seamless tank. I got this far before realising it just couldn't stretch enough and I had ballsed it up;

https://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh163/adam673673/Mobile%20Uploads/20160721_210039_zpsqrwx6woy.jpg

So i ripped that off and did the sides and front separately. Again the vinyl wouldn't stretch enough for the air intakes but i used the carbon effect wrap to fill the voids. The carbon stuff was thicker and stretched further, it also covers better.

https://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh163/adam673673/Mobile%20Uploads/20160724_095714_zpsagpgc7bw.jpg

So as it stands at the moment out in the sunshine with everything bolted up and the rearsets on;

https://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh163/adam673673/Mobile%20Uploads/20160724_123930_zpsziky2mx9.jpg

https://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh163/adam673673/Mobile%20Uploads/20160724_124005_zpswzcwsagc.jpg

https://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh163/adam673673/Mobile%20Uploads/20160724_123956_zps3lxaai6b.jpg

https://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh163/adam673673/Mobile%20Uploads/20160724_123949_zps663saaaq.jpg

https://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh163/adam673673/Mobile%20Uploads/20160724_123919_zpswqb5sg8t.jpg

I left it out in the sun to bake a little bit to see what effect it has on the vinyl. It has bubbled in a couple of places. The carbon stuff seems fine, its the blue thats giving the issues. Ill see how long it lasts.

Still to be delivered are the levers, keyless fuel cap and hanger.

From the photos it looks cracking mate, good job!

I took delivery of my track fairings today - I wanted to keep the rear light but looking at it, the fixing points are within the rear seat cowl. The track fairings have a hole for the light but no mounting lugs for it... I'm confused lol

Nice job on the vinyl wrapping, the finished result looks very tidy! Are you going to leave it there or add some stickers/number boards and the like? I think it looks pretty good as is....

You got a bargain!

Thanks Smile I was/am tempted by a couple of standard looking gsxr decals on the front sides which are only a couple of quid.

Fairings, a pillion peg and pillion seat are sold zso that's £170 back. Smile

Took it for a spin last night...

The battery struggled a little to get it started. At this point what i should have done was went and charged the battery as i knew id have to stop for petrol within 2 miles. Instead i let it idle whilst i put gearing 1 up 5 down. What i also should have done at this point was to ensure all the bolts (the ones i havnt touched and came from the factory like it) were tightened. I didnt.

So i took it to get fuel, go to leave and no start. Bump started in petrol station and off i go.

I noticed the weave IS still there, it either feels like its less intrusive or its the placebo effect. Ill take it out next time without the damper on to see if that makes any difference.

Anyway, i was on my way back home after 30 or 40 minutes going through a village and realised i can no longer click up (well...click down) any gears and i now only have first, not even neutral. I left the bike running, clutch in and hopped off the bike. Noticed most of whats holding the linkage is loose and the lever is hitting it before it travels enough to operate the gear. Attempt to adjust one handed whilst holding the clutch with gloves on which was working and then the bike cut out. Sigh. So gloves off and sort out the linkage and make it hand tight (no tools with me), go to start the bike...click click click. Found a very slight incline and a local farmery man to get it bumped, it seems the magic number is 10MPH for an effective bump.

So off i go, until the other end of the village where it cuts out at some cross roads FFS. Pushed it across and tried bumping but I was getting tired by this point Laughing Pushed it 1.5miles down a narrow lane to the next hill. Dozens of cars all happily drove around me as did a very slow moving ped. Never mind. Ah the hill, thank fuck. Up to 10mph and bump she goes. Kept the choke on and rode the next 3 miles home.

It still cut out 30ft from my house. A biker neighbour helped push the last bit Laughing

So either ive knocked/unplugged something whilst it was in my living room, my battery has decided to fuck itself in the arse or i need to be buying a reg/rec.

Annoyingly ive had reg/rec and/or battery issues on the last 3 bikes now Thinking

Pop the battery off the 1000 and stick it on, measure the voltage when running at 5k rpm.

Expect something sensible like 13.8v - 14v.

What has happened to the wiring harness and have you definitely stopped all + and - from going anywhere near the frame for maximum battery drain yo?

I havnt touched the wiring apart from covering open connections with electrical tape for now...

I'll check voltages next time I venture in to the garage.

Yeah, I'd just be checking any drains using the multimeter also.

Well damn.

Found this coming from the alternator/stator

https://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh163/adam673673/Mobile%20Uploads/20160801_195113_zps4vntoeja.jpg

Took the cover off (noticed the gasket needs changing...) and found this...

https://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh163/adam673673/Mobile%20Uploads/20160801_200836_zpsu7b64tox.jpg

The bolts that hold the coils in place where loose and the heads had been grounded off. Looks like it's been rumbling around inside.

Unsurprisingly there was no resistance between the pins and on account voltage check one pin went up to 20v and the others where near nothing.

So I'm guessing I shouldn't just replace the coils and should replace the whole lot. Might pack it up for winter a bit early...

Gotta be honest i think its a shame, this used to be a nice looking bike before you ditched the original bodywork. Suzuki styling is great on this model, youve added tackiness Sad Sad

Eh? If a track bike is tacky then so be it. The fact that it is generally a whole lot more tidier at the moment than the scuffed, cracked, scratched and mount missing OEM fairings which where no good to me on a track.

I don't think the k1-k3's where ever a looker anyway, especially in these colours Laughing

I'll stick to keeping my K6 1000 a 'nice looking bike'.

How can that be tacky? It's solid colours, no shopping list of sponsors on the side and is much tidier without indicators held on by bits of wood. The race fairings nose looks so much better than stock with the awful headlight shape.

You've just listed my entire bike Sad haha however I think its damn sexy!

Tacky is definitely the wrong word to use though. Its not peppered with chrome or shitty anodised parts and this was always intended to be a track bike, and so far is turning into a decent project Thumbs Up

I'd just make sure its working properly, grab a stator and reg/rec from electrex world and fit it, you know its new and should work as expected then.

I was thinking more china jobbies... under £50 delivered for both stator and reg/rec. Its £75 just for reg/rec at electrex.

Could very, very easily be false economy though Laughing

Embarassed

Personally I am not a fan of sponsor logos on bikes (mine had numerous stickers on it that were all peeled off the same day I took it home!) but im not the one riding it. You think it's sexy and that's more important than my opinion! But yes, I agree that tacky was probably not the best word to use to describe Groove's track bike.

Fitted a new stator today and am now reading healthy volts straight from it.

Unfortunately with it connect all back up the voltage on the battery is only getting to 13.8 when revved and 13.3 when idling.

New reg/rec will be ordered.

One must have taken the other out with it.

My street triple did the same. Worth upgrading the reg/rec to one of the new types to reduce the load on the stator

Erm, thats fine. Anything over 13 I'd consider good. Revving at 5k should take it close to 14, doesn't always go over.

Everywhere I have read says it should be 14.5/7ish when charging.

The reg/rec was getting warm with it sat idling so it IS doing something....

I never saw over 13.8 on my R1 whilst riding around Spain, so wouldn't worry too much. The fact its not giving you over 15 and under 13 is fine.
