Read enough posts in various topics and you get a fair understanding of the pros and cons, what bikes are best used for, their strengths and weakness' and of course their cool factor.
However, 'what bike represents all things to all men' (and women of course ).
My winner would be....
....The Honda C90
Cheap
Industructable and bullet proof
Sold in their millions world wide
Nippy
Excellent commuters
Ride it on L plates
Loads of luggage space
Can easy take a pilion or 2 or 3 or the whole family
Fuel economy
Whats your idea of the most versatile bike? ____________________ Current TRX850 : Monkeybike Past ZXR750 : FZR600 : ZX7R : YW100

Not from personal experience but a gerneral consensus i've been given the impression a VFR800 is a do it all bike. Of course i bet you could easily take the C90 offroad wheras the VFR might suffer more ____________________ LOOK AT DAT M8 WELL LUSH A PARROT INT IT

The ANF125 Innova has replaced the C90 (in this country, at least) :-

CG125 IMO.
There will never be a true all rounder, but I think a VFR800 is as close as you'll get. It won't be any good for offroading, like a DT125 won't be any good for touring. But Siggi is testament to the fact that you can take a sports bike offroad if you want to, despite the odds. ____________________ Yamaha YZF600R Thundercat > Yamaha YZF600R Thundercat (Written off by a BMW nonce)

my vote is with a big enduro with a rotax lump
a bmw f650 , mv,armstrong (military dirt bikes), apprilla pegaso, ccm,
cheap, reliable, fast enough to do long highway journeys, able to go off road with ease, parts are plentiful,

In a world where nothing else was on the road i'd have myself a c90 or a cg, or if i lived in outer mongolia and there wasn't a yak to ride.
All depends on where you ride, what you need to carry and how many of you your carrying, anything that will do it with the minimum of fuss, be reasonably comfy and cheepish is a good bike (piddleing over most cars is a bonus) ____________________ >RidingSkills<->Tech Tips<->MyBikes<

To be the most well-rounded bike I'd expect it to be able to be used in the widest variety of applications, weather conditions and road types.
No race-rep sportsbike is going to fit that bill. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

VFR, CBR and another one to add to the ring - the r1100gs. It can apparently hustle pretty well in the twisties, which is quite suprising, and it certainly proved it's ruggedness in the long way round. It can do as the honda can, and it can go on the rough stuff, too.

You could ride a DRZ400 up the side of a mountain could you do that n a R1? Saying that, I would have to pretty much agree on your choice of bike. There are few bikes that would have gone through what the BMW's did on the "Long Way Round" ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

Well KTM thopught the guys wouldn't, after taking advice off someone who had done it.
I asked Charlie Boorman if HE thought the KTM would have made it and he said "no way". ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

Bandit!
Can do 150miles to a tank (carefully)
Can do 130mph top whack
Can tour all day
Can do twisties better than you'd expect
Can do a trackday nae bother
Engines are nigh on indestructable
Faired ones have a decent bit of wind/weather protection
They aren't that ugly
Ok, you can't ride it on L plates, ok the engines are /as/ indestructable as some...
I think the bandit does everything well. (Except crash, broken frame anyone?)

Africa Twin, I think. For this precise reason I have been having a little think about getting one next year.
I've not ridden one yet, but they really do seem to be able to it all. ____________________ Y'all better recognise - TEAM ROX

The transalp a better everyday bike, the africa twin is more offroad orientated and allot less comfy (due to the more offroad geometry and suspension) saying that i'd probably till go for the AT if i could have reached it
Trouble is any serious offroading is risky, as the waterpump is the first thing that would be smashed to smitherines in the event of a big rock hiting the underside... have seen the TA and AT go arround the world quite happly
If you do get one GET A NEW SEAT! the stock one is beyond crap. (alternatively refoaming the stock one would be easy enough with some vynl e.t.c.) ____________________ >RidingSkills<->Tech Tips<->MyBikes<

a guy I work with has a transalp, fair enough I bet its a useful tool but it has to be the ugliest bike I have ever seen.
For me, my hornet is a very good do it all bike. Slightly limited fuel range doesnt bother me (who really wants to do over 100 miles without a rest stop anyway?), but I am starting to think a little half fairing would have some advantages. So maybe the answer is a z750s, or the new f800s bmw. ____________________ Sheene Memorial Challenge 08- www.sheenerun08.com

| My vote would go to the C90. However one of the super trailies such as the Africa Twin, GS, Super Tenere or Trumpet Tiger would have to come second. Any of the bove are quite capable of fastish road work, long distance, commuting and the odd trail run.
