I have a full UK driving licence, I passed 6/6/1996.

I am 36 years young Wink

There are 4 sections on the reverse of my driving licence which refer to motorbikes.

Next to A1 and A2 I have a small dash.

Next to AM and A there are 2 dates.

Does this mean I have category AM and A on my driving licence already, and I can therefore drive motorbikes which fall into that category?

Cheers Smile

I thought that too, and would have cheerfully ridden off into the sunset on a 750 if the salesman hadn't checked my licence.

I was disappointed to find that unless you have actually passed a driving test on a motorcycle, it just means that you have a provisional entitlement to ride up to a 125cc machine (under learner rules), which must first be validated by means of a CBT certificate, which lasts 2 years from the date of issue.

OK thanks for replying and clearing that up for me Thumbs Up

This is so misleading, or perhaps I'm just reading it wrong.

AM, sure, a pre-2001 pass means you can ride a 45kph/28mph ped. Fill your boots.

Your A will have "79 (tri)", so you can "ride" trikes.

If you want to ride a proper bike, you'll have to get a proper license.
