There was until very recently a cracking unofficial track in Water Orton (Birmingham). It was waste land and nobody tried to kick you off. The police came down and checked frame numbers on bikes occasionally. There was a great crowd there every weekend and weeknights sometimes.

Now its been fenced off and turned into a nature reserve and put it up for sale.

Anyway I was wondering where all the people who used to go there are now going.

I was wondering if there were any chat forums like this but specifically for people with crossers who are looking for somewhere to ride where they won't get shot at by a land owner or arrested by the police. I'll travel anywhere within a reasonable distance of Birmingham if it guarantees a good few hours fun off road.

Don't want anything that involves too much technical ability. Needs to be a fairly decent size as the old 430 likes to stretch its legs.

Cheers

Hi

They say that you have to have a road legal bike as green lanes are considered to be roads and subject to RT laws.

My CR430 does have lights but the wiring for them has long since gone. I could take them off and get a day time MOT. It was once registered as a Q plate but has no MOT at the moment and without serious modification I can't see how it could ever pass one!

No speedometer drive. No speedometer fitted. The exhaust has "Not for Road use" stamped on it. The tires also have the same!

Can't see me going road legal anytime soon. Plus I don't know if my bike would be suitable for road use as it pulls wheelies in 3rd in the mud. The one time I did try and ride it on tarmac (not a road) I could not keep the front wheel down and ended up falling off it!

I was really looking for off road tracks that are suitable for novices. There are a few practice tracks near us but they have these girting gret jumps and tabletops etc and they scare me witless...

Cheers for the link anyway.

Yes, they're roads like any other.

Ahh... the old "daytime MoT" myth. There's no such thing as a daytime MoT. You can present a 'bike for testing without lights and this will be noted on the orange advisory sheet, but the MoT certificate is the same as any other. Some testing stations deface the certificate by writing something about daytime on them, but it has no legal standing.

You might be surprised at how easy it would be to get your 'bike through the test. There are special rules for both trials 'bikes and enduro 'bikes.

You'll need road legal (E-marked) tyres, but speedometers are not part of the test.

Does anyone know if the old off road track at Bickenhill, near the NEC is still there? I used to ride there on my TY175 about 13years ago? It was a great off road area, with all different types of terrain, from sandy banks and steep climbs, to a big wooded area, with a big muddy bog to really attack flat out, usually without staying upright all the way through it!
