Just a note that I think 125 EXC is unlikely to be actually road legal for someone on a restricted 33hp (which has a power to weight limit), never mind someone on 15hp provisional licence.

Even if you have passed your test, it is still illegal for you to ride it on the road (including green lanes etc).

It's definitely not near legal if you are on a provisional licence.

To ride on a provisional licence, it should be under 14.6hp.
To ride on a restricted full licence it should be under 33hp and under 0.2112 hp/kg (so a 130kg bike would have a maximum of 27hp allowed).

This means the RS125 and Mito are probably just ok as they tend to have around 26/27hp these days I believe; when fully fueled up probably weigh around 130kg.

They are not legal for a learner unless they have appropriate restrictors fitted to make them produce less than 14.6hp. These generally come as standard when new.

You need to do a test to ride a bike limited to 33hp. The CBT is not a test, the clue is in the name Smile.
After two years you can automatically ride a bike of any power.

Read up, where I believe someone mentioned the power a KTM 125 EXC makes.

Honestly mate, dont listen to all the bullshit you're hearing. Buy the KTM and you'll be fine with it at 17, loads of people have them. Do you really think the police are going to go into power to weight ratio's kerbside? NO! They'll see it's a 125 and you'll be on your way.

Just look on youtube they are awesome little bikes with stupid power for a 125. Although £1500 isn't going to get you anything decent, probably a pre 2000 model!

I think they don't have steering locks and the like.

I went to the KTM stand ages ago at the ally pally stand and said explicitly if i could ride a KTM EXEC125 on my provisional - they said no Thumbs Down They said in competition trim, they put out 40bhp at the crank - even if you do have it as your main bike - expect rigorous maintenance and don't expect it to be as rideable as say a CG125. The guy also told me that restricting it will be worthless and that i might as well get a 4 stroke alternative for day to day use.

Failing that, remove one of its powerbands and maybe it might restrict it to 20bhp or so.

All 125cc 2 strokes are designed to put out 25-35bhp or so, but are consequently restricted to 14.6bhp to comply with local laws and legislations but like most 17 year olds out there, speed is much more important than preserving your license and abiding by the laws (well who here would claim that their bike is still restricted!) so as such, the run the risk, and most are NOT caught.

1500 is a nice price to pay considering that's about how much a less capable xr125 costs and seeing that you want to off road on it, it's definatley a good choice with the KTM

No ignition or keys, some have indicators some don't (I think they do from factory, just people take them off) They have a stand.

You can do the A2 test at 17, just do your theory have some lessons and go for it!

See the sticky thread at the top of 'new bikers' for details about tests and such like.

Many police aren't as dumb as you might expect, though with most you probably won't have problems. I didn't say that it was a thing not to do, just to be aware of what you are doing.

The KTM is a good off road bike, but I can't see it being a good road bike for daily or regular use.
