Hey I need some help with picking my motocross bike , I am going to be booking myself into Honda or Yamaha off road experience soon and then look at getting a bike ,

I was told about a Honda Cr 125 but they are kinda expensive at the moment , i have seen some bikes from as low as £500 on ebay but not sure if they will be any good.

If someone could help me out that would be great .

Thanks

saM

What Jamie means to say is how much experience do you have off road? If not much is the answer then using a small two stroke with a snappy throttle and narrow power band may not be the ideal thing.

You mean you can't ride a motorbike at all, or you can't ride a motorbike on the road?

Righto. I would do the experiences first before even considering the bike. There is no point us telling you what you want if you have no idea yourself.

You may not even like it, off road riding is not everyone's cup of tea, feels like riding around on ball bearings till you get used to it.

i bought a yamaha ttr250 for a bit less than £500

its more enduro than motocross, which means its easy maintenance and can be used on the road legally

i have done off road tryouts at the nec on a 125 2 stroke motocross bike, and a 4 stroke 450

the 125 2 stroke was definitely a lot more fun as its more agile, but i prefer to have something less high maintenance

i just potter around on forest trails etc, so im not thrashing my ttr250, and to be honest, a c90 would be fine for most of the offroading i do.

mine has a lowering link fitted which is handy as im about 5ft7

i agree about the riding around on ball bearings description

generally, the bigger the bike the better it is on the road, and the smaller the bike, the better it is off-road

looking at buying a yz250.
have been riding an old DR200 which is now in the scrap yard. bike i have been offered is a 1999 yz250. i would only be using it for trail riding through forestry etc. have had experiance and could get the ol dr to dance.

any advice on these kind of bikes would be most welcome.

At the end of the day, if someone gave you a bike for free and you wante3d to have a mess about on it, the basic facts is... you would. Just because your willing to pay money it doesnt make any difference because sooner or later you will get used to its ability anyway. You can have a xr650 that is heavy as a horse and you would still be able to ride it because you would go slow at first then get slowly used to it.
But i would reccommend a Suzuki rm 250/125 or a honda cr 125 and just abuse the bastard until it throws you off.
Then judge for yourself what you want instead of other people telling you! Cool

Best bet is to get their number or email address (google will help you with this.)
Then contact them and explain you would like to book yourself on such a course.
This will require a monetary transaction.

HTH.

I Myself would only buy a yamaha or ktm. You wont go wrong with the yamaha yz125. No real 125 mx bike is a starter bike as 125 races are normaly quicker than 250 races, So just dont pin it and you will be fine. Dont buy a 4stroke motocross bike as they cost alot more to keep. Rm 125s blow up way to easy, My friend had it happen 2 times in the space of a year, and my other friend went through 3 of them before he learned his lesson.
