Recently bought a GPZ 500 (£300, and I fully knew the condition it was in)

it idles very roughly fluctuating under 1k and stalls as soon as I give it gas. Other times it will idle nicely and I can rev it to about 4k and then it wont go any higher.

So far all I have done is made sure the carbs where nice and clean (they were, no problems here).
I have a suspicion that the issue is with the fuel supply to the carbs - a couple of times when I disconnected the fuel line from the tank they were dry, as in no fuel spilt out.

I noticed a leak from the fuel tap, took it apart and found that one of the gaskets was torn and missing about 30% of its circumference. Gonna go and buy a new gasket / oring and hopefully that will solve the leak.

If this does not fix the problem, what else could be the issue?

thanks for reading, and im still completely new to this so apologies for any newbie stuff

try running the bike with the fuel filler cap open,if the bike runs O.K you have a petrol tank breather block though I am unsure if this model has a breather hose attached to the tank or a breather built into the fuel filler cap.

The breather runs out from the front of the tank (take the seat off and you'll see a long thick hose).

Ok Il try this as well, still need to fix the tap though as leaky petrol in the garage isn't a good idea Laughing
