|
|
Was looking at my gear I use daily and it just appeared to me a lot of it is battered but has held up well just thought I would stick up what I think about it.
Shift Brawler Gloves.
https://img118.imageshack.us/img118/8322/1000555smallac2.jpg
This is a great pair of gloves, They are little bit to heavy for summer they make your hands sweat very quickly. Took ages to break in but now they are comfy as hell. Plus I like the looks. The short cuff isn't a problem as I normally wear my gloves under the jacket.
Pros: Comfortable, Mean looks, Well padded, They scare little kids.
Cons: Breaking the bastards in, The pinky is almost as long as the index
HJC CL-SP "Phoenix"
https://img234.imageshack.us/img234/4808/1000558smallva8.jpg
Great lid to replace my shark with. I had a HJC before my shark and it done very well, served its purpose perfectly until a car kindly hit me head on.
I brought this one after smashing my shark. I really like the looks the weight and lining. One problem I have with it is the damn strap sometimes it gets crossed over when putting it through the d-rings and makes it hard getting it off
Apart from that solid lid.
Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Good visibility I like the wide visor, Lightweight, design.
Cons: None yet.
Suzuki GSX-R Champion Jacket
https://img113.imageshack.us/img113/6263/1000559smalllf6.jpg
Had this jacket over 2 years I think and its been abused. Gone through a few other jackets but have always kept this one. I like the styling, it was really an impulse buy because it matched the bike.
I mean I have had two off's in this jacket and its still cleaned up fine even after being being thrown over a car with me in it and done over 20,000+ miles. Never been a fan of textiles till I got this, very hard wearing.
Only real problem I have with it now is after all the abuse the zipper tab fell off and I replaced it with a keyring and now it looks very peasanty and the white embroidered logo's have gone an off white even after washing it.
https://img169.imageshack.us/img169/895/1000561smallqu5.jpg
I paid over $300 brand new and now you can pick them up for $200. Best impulse by so far, well this and the bike
Pros: Well made, Comfortable, Good cold weather jacket as well thanks to the removable liner. Fully armoured.
Cons: You look a brand whore Still want another leather.
Teknic Lightning boot
https://img210.imageshack.us/img210/3753/1000566smallde6.jpg
Utterly abused I have had these as long as the bike or longer. They are well used but I can't seem to throw them out they are just so comfortable.
Well made also been in 2 offs. The toe sliders went missing thanks to the RF600r no idea how but lost one when I got the pegs down and lost the other one just changing gear.
Don't really have much more else to say about them apart from they held up well over 20,000+ miles and I want another pair of Teknic's.
https://img380.imageshack.us/img380/9895/1000568smallwl0.jpg
Sole is gone thanks from being a twat and just general abuse like supermoto'ing a ped.
Pros: Hard wearing, Nice design.
Cons: Toe sliders are gone, Not very waterproof.
Apart from that I wear jeans most days as its to hot for anything else.
So whats your current every day gear looking like and holding up like.

Leather jacket
https://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f216/stinkwheel/jacket.jpg
Bought at a bike rally about five years ago, just a traditional leather biker jacket with a double breasted fastening, made of really heavy, double-stitched leather, wieghs a ton.
Pros: Really comfy, keeps the wind off. The more worn it gets, the better it looks and fits.
Cons: Not waterproof. Couple of zip pull tabs have broken off.
Bellstaff leather jeans
https://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f216/stinkwheel/jeans.jpg
Bought about 12 years ago. Still wearing very well although the lining has now disintegrated somewhat. Crashed in them twice, once going pretty fast with minimal scuffing.
Pros Comfy to wear on bike. Keep the wind off. Zip to jacket.
Cons: No longer made. Not waterproof. Uncomfy to walk around in. A bit of a pain to take on and off.
HG Tuareg summer gloves
https://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f216/stinkwheel/gloves.jpg
Bought about three years ago. Bare minimum summer gloves with chromic leather palms, My favourite gloves. Unfortunately I've worn big holes in the palm of the throttle hand now.
Pros: Very comfy, no sweating, lightweight, no lining to pull out.
Cons: No longer made. Not waterproof. Worn out and I can't get new ones.
Arai RV helmet
https://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f216/stinkwheel/lid.jpg
Bought seven years ago. Fits well, lightweight.
Pros: Lightweight, comfy.
Cons: Noisy. Steams up in the wet (they all do though). Shows up scratches.
Hi-leg combat boots
https://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f216/stinkwheel/boots.jpg
I got ripped off with these on the internet, they aren't proper ones but copies. Proper ones have a moulded rather than stitched sole, as such these aren't properly waterproof. I'm on the look out for a new pair of proper ones which I'll give the review of. My old ones got destroyed by a loose brake torque-arm but I still have all my toes.
Pros: Comfortable. Waterproof. You can walk about in them. Excellent protection. Don't look like something off powerrangers.
Cons: Take a bit of breaking in. Require regular polishing to keep waterproof. Becoming increasingly difficult to get hold of. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
I did the 2010 Round Britain Rally on my 350 Bullet. 89 landmarks, 3 months, 9,500 miles. |

RST CobraVent lid-
Was cheap and looks cool, but its a bit noisy and the build quality isn't as good as some more expensive lids.
Scott 2 piece leathers-
Great! the only complaint is that the zipper on the pants looks like it could be a little bit weak. Other then that there excellent the leather feels strong but is still very flexible. They can also be tailored to fit by Scott for all the deformed people out there.
Tuareg Gloves-
I've used them a lot over the last year and now there starting to fall apart, not that comfy either but again nice and cheap.
Alpinestars SMX-4 boots-
There the first pair of sports styled riding boots I've owned so nothing to compare them with. I've only had them for a few months( you can probably tell by how clean they are ) But so far they feel nice to wear and seem very well made.
Wet weather and commuting gear.
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/big_al/P1010064.jpg
HG Hi-Dry jacket-
7 years old now and still warm and waterproof, lots of pockets and zips and stuff, was cheap when brought. Also people move out of the way when I wear it in the supermarket because of the amount of oil and dirt its covered in.
HG textile pants-
Just what you'd expect really warm and waterproof for not a lot of money, reckon they fall apart in a crash though.
HG Panther 2 gloves-
Really warm. Will stay dry for a few hours in really heavy rain then start to leak a little. The lining is staring to fall apart now but the have had a hard life.
Old steel toe cap boots-
More comfy to walk around in then proper motorcycle boots, good for kicking people, working on building sites and if cars run over your feet. Not waterproof. ____________________ Yamaha FZR400RR 3tj

Ariel man I'm loving those gloves and I don't know why.
I just like the studded palm have an old school race look about them.
Only thing is they are green

Jacket:
FuryGan Leather Jacket, Had it for 3/4 years quite a few spills in it, its getting a bit baggy now but it does the business
Frank Thomas Something or other waterproof jacket with build in armor. Its not the most comfortable, but it is totally waterproof and pretty warm
Legs:
Draggin Jeans (The pic shows my older crashed in pair not my newish ones, they in the wash). Comfortable, Crash tested and i trust them. I can be found most days in a pair of draggin jeans..
Spada Flage: I think i paid 30 quid for these a couple of years ago, totally waterproof and utterly warm... Perfect for a 10 hour day dispatching in the pissing rain. They do get very hot if the temp rises though...
Chest:
Dainese Body Armor/Back protector
I wear this under my leather jacket if i am going out for what i know will likely be a fast rideout/hoon. sometimes in the hot days of summer i wear it by its self to get the breeze
Gloves:
Currently im wearing the short Furygan leather gloves on my leather jacket in the pic, i picked them up in france for about 30 quid and they offer fantastic feel but your hands can get very cold in them.
Lidl waterprof gloves for rainy days, cheap warm and do the business... Offer rubbish feel and are overly bulky... but for the money cant be beaten.
Lid:
Shoei Multitec, Best helmet i have owned... nuff said
Boots:
Sidi B2 Goretex: Totally waterproof and pretty warm, again do the business
Old pair of Gaerne summer boots, they were so comfy when broken in and i have ridden/walked so many miles in them i had to include em. |

Bering Jacket - awesome bit of kit, I bought it 18 months ago, and have commuted in it ever since. It's hardly showing the wear at all; so far the only damage is a rubber tab on a Velcro fastener, and the Scotchbright bits looking a bit tatty from being machine-washed.
It's warm, waterproof and doesn't look too out of place off the bike. In conjunction with a decent neck tube, it keeps me nice and toasty during the 30mins trundle into work.
https://img507.imageshack.us/img507/8605/27102007101rg8.jpg
My trusty Nitro N800v on the left, and my Caberg Justissimo on the right.
The Nitro is my helmet of choice - excellent fit, fairly quiet and very well ventilated. The only downside is the lack of an anti-fog visor.
The Caberg I bought last summer, as it has the integral sunvisor and can be split down into an open faced helmet if you like. On very hot days I often used this in conjunction with a balaclava - I like to think I looked quite dashing, although I'm sure I just looked like a posey plonker. The anti-fog treatment on the visor is very effective, although it seems to have disintegrated recently, leaving the visor almost opaque - I really must get round to buying a new one, but at £30 they aren't cheap!
https://img507.imageshack.us/img507/495/27102007102zx0.jpg
Self explanatory really, I wear this on the commute to work - don't like to give the cagers an excuse not to see me.
https://img458.imageshack.us/img458/5444/27102007103tl7.jpg
My trousers of choice: 'Hood' Aramid-lined bike jeans, very comfortable to wear, and the woven protective layer runs from the waist to below the knee - much better in my eyes than that of the 'Draggin' variety. They get a little hot and sweaty in the summer, but not excessively so, and they are fairly showerproof in poor weather - at least over my 14 mile commute. I need to get round to sorting out some knee armour for them, although I've been reluctant to cock up the fit by making them into normal bike gear.
I have a pair of Bering textile trousers to match the jacket, but I only wear them when it is absolutely chucking it down, as they are far more fiddly to get on/off when I'm getting changed in/out of my uniform at work.
https://img458.imageshack.us/img458/703/27102007104jx5.jpg
My rather battered Swat Waterproof side-zip patrol boots. About to be decommissioned due to me breaking the zip beyond reasonable repair, these boots are waterproof, warm (Thinsulate lining) and extremely comfortable. I wear them on the ride to work, then wear them for 13 hours of running around bouncing people about cells, then wear them home again - I can't praise them enough. ____________________ >Soultrader Mister James, I bet you are a copper

Does anyone know if there's a web site anywhere where you can post reviews of your kit or where you can look at anyone else's opinions on kit? I can't find one, but there must be one somewhere...
I would post pictures of my kit, but I seem to have aquired so much it would get silly...
Jadc: Are you a Star Wars Stormtrooper in your spare time? How do you find the Aroh helmet? I'd like a MX-style helmet with a visor for my big KTM, but the Arai Tour-X is too expensive...
