Most insurance companies send you an electronically printed document as the cover note anyway - even the signature is usually electronically printed - so if you have a good printer you could just ask them to send you a copy of the document to print out yourself.

I had the same problem, picked up the wrong docs (it was part of my insurance but not the page with the signature on) The post office said I can see you are insured but I still cant tax it for you till I see the page with the sig (mindless autonitons) so I went back to work and logged onto ebike clicked cover note and printed it out. 10 mins later I was taxed.

If I were you I'd just fake it (as long as you really are insured)

As much as this might be very illegal, the last time I was in this situation I just wrote my own covernote. Then copied a random signature off google images and pasted it in. The post office didnt bat an eyelid and I was taxed and away.

Why is the bike not in your name then? Is it because you've only just bought it?

If you get caught riding with no tax, not only will you have to pay a fine and buy the tax for it too, but they will also chase you for back tax up to when it was last taxed properly. Its not worth risking it.

You can tax it using the new keeper slip that you detach when you send the rest of it off to the DVLA.
