Hi guys,

anyone had any experience with the Hornet 250? what are they like? Are they way to revvy?

I'm after a hornet 600 really but a 250 has come up cheap near me so i suppose its worth considering, what's everyones opinions? Cheers. Thumbs Up

They are more or less a cbr 250 engine and I think they rev out to at
lest 15,000 rpm.You do need to rev them to get any power at all.
With the standard exhaust they are quite and don't sound like a bike
being raced all the time.
The price of the 250 and 600 are very close.
Get the 600 if you can but the 250 is good also.

Paddy.

Going to be near impossible to find parts for if something goes wrong or you drop it. Be probably cheaper and easier to get a 600 in the long run me thinks.

My mate has got a 250, has had it for quite a few years now. Same chassis as the 600, which means pricey 120/70 and 180/55 tyres. Very revvy, sounds great with a race can on but you do have the rev the bollocks off it to get anywhere. Handling is not bad, but not as good as other 250's due to the weight. 600 is probably a much better proposition.

if i got a hornet would have to be a higher cc'd machine, the 250s look great but its just easier for parts and such with a 600 or a 900

Why do people say this?

Fair enough secondhand parts are a bitch to obtain for imports but between Honda and David Silver you're covered.

Not hornet250 but Balius250 I tried one day.
------
Today I borrowed kawasaki balius250; naked version of zxr250.

Position was very compact. Gear ratio was very short. Busy to shift up after start. Red was from 16000 but I felt power at around 9000. More than 10000 was smooth but not so much torque than I expected. Shift up at 9000 was smooth. Handling was Quicker and body is narrower than my W650. Usually I don't filter, but this balius250 made me filter. On highway, this bike wasn't comfortable. Reving 10000 constantly made me tired and got off the highway after 10minutes. My favorite winding was closed during winter so I couldn't try it. Balius had very exciting and smooth engine, compact and light body, and fun at city ride, but not comfortable at high speed cruising.

I'd opt for a 600, but Hornet 250 parts (well consumables) shouldn't be hard to find:

I believe there's a section on Hornets Nest about the 250....

I want a 250 hornet, however there aren't any cheap near me. The insurance is a lot better than the 600's.

The parts I don't think are a problem, I have tried to get parts from David Silvers and he has had all of them in stock (I was pricing a crashed 250).

Yeah they red line at 16,000-18,000 rmp. Guy was telling me the race version of that engine will redline at 24,000 rmp!!

I plan to get one once I sell me bike.
