Hi, I have recently aquired a piaggio nrg mc3 stolen recovered moped. All teh electrics seem to be working e.g. the electric start and the lights, horn etc but the enginge wont catch. My next point of call is the fuses but i cant find them! does anyone know where they are? Thanks, Danny.

The Fuse is near the battery... but if some electrics are working it must be fine... so its nothing that simple... keep looking. Wink

OK, this may be a bit long-winded and I'm typing what someone else is telling me so bear with me.

Assuming that there's fuel in it and the battery is well-charged, you need to check that the engine has compression. In the NRG you do this by looking inside the seat bucket, there is a little box-like cover. Take this off. Hopefully the airbox is still on and it should have a sticky-up thing a bit like a trumpet on top. Put your finger over this, open the throttle and crank it over. You should feel the suction on your finger if it has compression.

If it sucks, keep your finger over the airbox bit, open the throttle again, start it up and keep cranking it for a count of 10 then take your finger off the airbox while still cranking it and it should catch.

If this doesn't work let us know.

There arent any fuses there! Sad but there is something a bit wierd there. There are two red wires which have been twisted together and there is a thin blue wire as well as the normal black one. What I have been doing so far is connecting the blue and black to the negative terminal an the red one to the positive terminal. Is that right and am I maybe missing a fuse?

Oh and I have realised that I don't think the spark plug is working. I replaced it but it still wont spark. Evil or Very Mad Any ideas?

I think i found it, there were two parts with finger sized holes, one was a rubber tube, the other was mostly hidden behind plastic but fitted your description i think. Anyway I tried what you said with both and neither have suction Sad however, although I don't know wheather or not htis is relevant, i can feel the exhaust blowing out air. I have added an attatchment of the view underneith the seat well. Sorry the reply took so long, the weather's been crap and I'm working outside whenever I have the chance.
