Back in 2005 I went into Fone4U and got a contract on 02.
Been with 02 ever since, and my 18 months agreement runs out in June/July 2008.
Fones4U Rang me yesterday, and said 'Are you happy with 02' I said no, then she went on to say 'Well, We can 'Buy' you out of your 02 contract, put you on Orange with the new phone 6500 (which I wanted anyway) 500 mins, unlimited tx for £35 month for 18 months again. Plus a cheque for £200 which is the total to buy me off of 02.
Its the same amount im paying for 02 but Orange have better Mins plus a lot more text's + New phone.

Now, I agreed to go for this on one condition that I get the terms and conditions asap plus the phone (to see if I like it really Rolling Eyes )
Its on its way and I have 14 days to change my mind.

Ive looked online and I cant find anything to do with other people getting this buying out lark. The cheque will take up to 28 days to come through, thus being on two contracts for the next month.
If it dont come through Im lumped with 2 contract till June/July next year.
Im just after info if companys do do this.

One thing im not really happy about is another 18month contract (I know most are 18 months now)
Or, just spend £10 a month on 02 next year to get the 300 text free a month.

They offered to do it because they've just tied you in for another year to get more of your money. But a cracking bargain on your end. Thumbs Up

Sounds almost too good to be true. Do you know if they want your old phone? Mine was stolen recently and this sounds like a good option for me.

F4U will get a commission from O2/Orange for selling a contract to you. So it's in their interest to snap you up for an extra year, even if it means having to buy you out of your current one to get you to take the plunge.

If you go direct to the Orange site you can get the phone you want on 18 month contract with 600 anytime minutes, unlimited txt (subject to FUP)
Quote:
The Offers are subject at all times to a fair usage policy of 3000 minutes or texts (as appropriate) each month. Usage above this amount will constitute abuse and Orange may monitor usage and withdraw the Offer from your account if the fair usage policy is abused.

This isn't too good to be true.

Back in March I was still 9 months into a 12 month contract with Orange.

F4U gave me £100 in CASH to cancel my contract (which only cost £56 to cancel anyway) and I got a shiny new phone for free and a new cheaper, better contract.

Thumbs Up

Thanks Jon - Put me at ease now.
The fact they was giving me £200 28 days later was a bit worrying.
Thanks Thumbs Up

You'd not cope with the 02 300 text (genie) sim coming from a contract.

I have it as i predominantly text. But fuck me does it rape you if you make the mistake of foning someone quickly.

I think phone contracts are the only place where the term "if it seems too god to be true" is actually followed by the line "you could probably still get a better deal".

It's crazy the deals you can get on mobile phones these days, good for the consumer though.

The buying out lark is a regular thing now. Usually done in store, and they give you £100 cash, Reduce your current contract to the lowest monthly rate, then get you going on your new contract.

Do you take out phone insurance by any chance? if so then your best bet (and this goes for everyone) is to go to car Phone warehouse. Take out a contract with them (orange dolphin is probably the best), and take out the Car Phone Warehouse insurance. This comes with a contract breaker. So after 6 months is up you can cancel your contract free of charge, And upgrade to a newer phone on a fresh contract, at the same monthly rate. Then after 6 months you can bin it again and start fresh. Smile Thumbs Up

Quite, it might even be worth popping into a shop to see what you can get. JAG shops near me were offering a buy out of your contract, and either a quad bike, a laptop or an XBox 360 for £99! Thumbs Up

TBH I might stop contracts - Again my bill was £50 this month on a £25 tarriff Laughing

So, will most shops try to buy you out of a contract? Ive given up on fones4u but I guess its worth a look around. Just the 18th months put me off.

I will take a look at that dolphin one also Thumbs Up
