The guy I was riding with thought so!

A couple of weekends ago I took my KTM 990 Adventure out for a ride around Thetford Forest in Norfolk. It was very wet, very sandy, very slippery and rather cold.

Kept it shiny-side up though - my mate kept thinking "he'll never get through that", but I did Very Happy

In the photo, the puddle was up to the headlight in the middle. And I was on OE, road-biased, tyres...

Yes, it was a cold day but it was hard enough work to actually keep me quite warm. And heated grips help a lot too Smile

The bike wasn't sliding around all that much as she's quite heavy and managed to plough through stuff rather well. I did have to turn off the ABS though as otherwise I'd never have been able to stop! Shocked

For those that haven't see one close-up, the 990 is quite a big beastie:

But what other bike can embarass R1s and other sportsbikes on the road, then take you cross-country through deep mud and water?

Mr. Green

Any other big trailie riders fancy a day out sometime?

Probably, yes (well, the 950 as the 990 wasn't around in 2004) - or it could have been its little brother the 640:

I'm quite glad they rode the BMWs though as the KTMs have retained their exclusivity, while every man and his dog has bought a BMW 1150 / 1200 GS Very Happy

London's not all that far away - Thetford is on the A11 in Norfolk.

A Highland? Wink

It was the 950 that they tried and preferred I think; but KTM thought they couldn't make it unaided, so didn't want to offer them sponsorship. Turns out they were right, though obviously that didn't harm BMW sales.
