Have I got this right?

Pour lighter fluid on the tyre.
Start the burnout.
Immediately get a mate to light it and pour on some more lighter fluid?
Whe you want to stop just pull away in the usual fashion?

I've only ever seen it done with fire breathers blowing fire onto an already spinning tyre.

Yes to stop you just stop the burnout normally.

More importantly... why would you want to?

Is being on a bike not pose power enough?

Try it with Petrol*. That will give you a feeling of pose and is sure to attract a crowd.
