Ok my biggest gripe when we moved house last year was losing my huge garage, gutted aint the word but needs must. I didnt lose any bikes, and infact gained a tdr250 which I love 8)

Now the new gaff, had a shed in the back, an 8X10. Good enough to keep the junk in but no real room for working on bikes, luckily enough I work on an raf base so plenty of empty hangars to stash bikes, cars, vans etc in. I also made friends with a guy across the road with a cbr600 who kindly offered mea share of his garage so I could stick 2 bikes in there.

In the meantime I aqquired a 6X8 garage for free that had blown down in some high winds. Herby and myself set about creating Frankenshed, by joining the two together. It looked awful but gave me more room to mess in, and I could at a push keep the bikes in there, handy as hazel was riding again in prep for her test.

But, it still wasnt enough, I was still having to work on some bikes on the camp as the shed was cramped, so I deicded to build a block garage out the back, permission granted from the boss too 8)

Soo was doing some pricing up and got chatting to my neighbour with the cbr, who also builds for a living, and he suggested a prefab garage as they can be had fairly cheaply. Initially I didnt like the idea as they arent the best looking of things, but when the costs came in for the blockwork etc I started to think otherwise, added to the fact that the estate I live in is hardly an upmarket place Laughing

So I started looking for a garage, missed a few on ebay, some going for stupid prices so I put an ad up on the local freecycle site asking if anyone knew of one for sale or free to collector (as some are). A mate from the hills got in touch, saying another mate had one for sale, so I sent him a text. The reply I got back was something like 'yeah no probs, its an 8X18 no roof but all the panels are there £100' worth a look I think although 8 X 18 is an odd size. Must have got it wrong!

I went to have a look the day after and it was all in bits, looked at one of the roof beams and it looked around 12'. Ideal, a deal was done!

The next weekend, went back with a trailer and some friends to collect the concrete monster, the poor old transit struggled a bit but managed the 70 mile round trip ok, even with a huge tailback on every hill as we went down to 18mph in first!

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v139/two_smoke/newshed/090320081164.jpg

I did some measuring, sh*te it works out at 12X32 Shocked oh well wont fit it all so decided on a 12X24, good size for a bike workshop (the door faces the house so no access for cars Wink ).

So, away with the old sheds

All shuttered and sheeted, took ages to get a good day for the concrete to be done though Sad

Next was time to lay the bricks to raise the garage up a bit, being over 6 foot is a pain for bangin the head on stuff

Hi well we got the garage say 2 months back. We were waiting for 3 weeks for decent weather to concrete though!

I think I have spent so far just over a grand, I have all the electrics to go in, lighting, sockets, rcd's etc, all the interior paint is bought, just need wood for the doors and I think I'm laughing.

manxscot; Really, I have to say my mate across the road has done the skilled stuff, and a guy called gaz with a ktm did the brickwork. I owe a few people some bike jobs, kind of a trade-trade thing going on. Handy really! Oh and I have a job already cheers Laughing fixing black shitehawks Wink

That really is quite cheap for what is essentially another building! It looks tidy too, especially seeing as you are painting it.

I think so too, funny really the biggest single cost was the concrete. Came in at around £300 for 3.5 cubes, second was the roofing at £200 then bricks, roofing wood, sand, cement at £170 etc.. it all adds up, just glad I got the garage itself cheap!

This may sound stupid, but is it really a good idea to have that many windows considering there's going to be loads of bikes in there?

Looking awesome though, much better than my garage where you're forever falling over lawn mowers, the tumble dryer, and the freezer.

Hi mate well that is an issue, of sorts, but only the three houses next door can see in from that side, and all the neighbours are superb. I am however going to fit curtains for some privacy Smile

I have now fitted 8 bikes in with plenty of room Very Happy
