The disc arrived today, now I just need to decide between EBC and Gold Fren brake pads and whether to get HH sintered or not Thinking

Had a little bit of a search and I'm quite liking the sound of the Gold Fren HH sintered pads. Decisions, decisions.

Sintered will wear through your disc pretty quickly though Sad
But would improve braking, depends whats you want doesnt it
Longevity or performance Wink

Performance. I know sintered wear through discs quicker but the amount I use the bike, I'd rather have the extra braking power because the front brake is crap at the moment.

Plus according to Sickpup on here, Gold Fren sintered are quite soft pads anyway.

Can you define pretty quickly lol

My TDM has the original discs and 36,000 miles on it always had sintered pads. Do you have any actual experiance of sintered pads wearing down discs?

I've gone for the Gold Fren HH pads so we will see how they perform. Hopefully I'll get the pads next week and then I can fit everything.

Could the brake be uprated? I know alot of the older Yamahas can take the bluespots which are Brilliant calipers.

Yeah, maybe if they are still dire I may look into it.

My pads have just arrived, ordered them yesterday at 14:50 and they were dispatched by 15:10. Amazingly quick to arrive.

Going to get some breakfast and then fit everything.

Here's what I started with:

https://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a376/ms51ves3/DSCF1360.jpg

Took the caliper off the forks and removed the old pads. Not much difference (if any) in meat between the new and old pads:

https://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a376/ms51ves3/DSCF1361.jpg

Smeared copper grease on the back of the new pads and fitted them back in the caliper:

https://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a376/ms51ves3/DSCF1365.jpg

Fitted the caliper back on the forks and torqued the bolts up.

Now to lift the front wheel in the air:

https://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a376/ms51ves3/DSCF1367.jpg

The bricks (and a scissor jack on the other side) help keep the bike stable.

Within 5 minutes the wheel was off:

https://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a376/ms51ves3/DSCF1369.jpg

Another 5 minutes and the disc was off:

https://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a376/ms51ves3/DSCF1372.jpg

It was easy removing the bolts as I've done it before when I changed my tyre. Gave the allen socket a couple of taps with a hammer beforehand to shock the threads just to be safe.

And as if by magic the new disc appeared on the wheel:

https://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a376/ms51ves3/DSCF1373.jpg

Fitted the bolts back on with 243 Loctite and torqued them up to 20Nm.

Re-fitted the wheel and torqued the spindle (74Nm) and pinch bolt (23Nm) up.

And a final picture with the new disc:

https://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a376/ms51ves3/DSCF1375-1.jpg

Can't wait to try it out.

Out of curiosity (and apologies for tarnishing the thread) when did Yam make a 'new' TZR250?

My TZR250 had a blue spot caliper on it when I bought it (they bolt straight on). However to me the problem with the TZR brakes seems to be that the ratio of the master cylinder to the caliper is poor (stuff all movement in the lever), and the smaller pistons on the blue spot make this even worse (no movement, no feel and loads of lever pressure required).

All the best

Keith

I had the same problem with my TDR250 when I fitted a blue spot. I ended up swapping the standard master cylinder for a KTM660 SMC one, problem solved.

Hi

I have a master cylinder from an Aprilia AF1 Sintesi on mine currently (12mm bore rather than 14mm bore, from memory). Has improved things quite a bit.

Had a similar issue with the Bimota which used a Yamaha master cylinder with Brembo calipers as standard. Dramatically improved with a Brembo m/c from a Mille.

All the best

Keith

I thought the wheels were a bit thin, but the site it's pulled from is definitly advertising it as a 250.

On a TZR50 the front tyre is the same size as a 2MA and the rear tyre is a 130 which is 10mm wider Laughing
