Hello boys and girls,
As some of you know, I'm studying motorcycle mechanics and I'm in my second year. Recently North Devon College have taken over the college I attend due to a difficult financial situation or some alleged bullshit. Anyway, North Devon College had acquired a bike from a student because he rode it one day, and left it there for two years.
So we got it down to our workshop and it's in a bit of a state but first couple of objectives are to try and give it a good old clean, get it running an apply for a V5 and get a set of keys before I start throwing any of my hard earned at it. Ok so I lied earlier, about it being in a state, it's an absolute shit heap.
The pics of the bike before we tore it apart are on my mate's N95, he should be emailing them to me later tonight or I'll get them off him tomorrow. But for now here's what we've done so far, got an array of bits and bobs off the bike, drained the "oil" from the sump, which came out as a mixture of water, browny white sludgy shit that crept out the hole making it look like something was alive in the sump.

Rocker cover off to have a look at the cams and general prod about.

Notice the complete lack of front calipers, master cylinder, brake lever and hoses. Going to cost a few bob me thinks.

Fuxzord tacho drive, we're not entirely sure how this happened but we had some bits lying around in the workshop including some CB750/900 cams and tach drive and rocker cover.

Fork stanchions showing severe pitting, i seem to recall a few members chatting something about getting them re-chromed and such like, anyone got any details or tips on cleaning them up yourself?

What a float bowl looks like when it hasn't had any fuel in for two years, still, I'd rather it looked like that than a load of old petrol that had turned to treacle over time.
https://img385.imageshack.us/img385/7131/img5097vd1.jpg
After taking out the pilot jet and slide and stripping all four carbs and giving them a fucking good clean with the parts cleaner and a relatively low pressure air gun, I'd have said they cleaned up quite well.
https://img385.imageshack.us/img385/6876/img5096vf8.jpg
New (second hand, kicking around in the workshop in better nick than ours) rocker cover and gasket and gasket glue. Going to clean that up a bit though, was the end of the day though so didn't have any more time really.

The state the swing arm and most of the frame is in. That's a lotta rust eh? Anyone know any really good/cheapish sand blasters and painters?
More to come soon.

i use photobucket to host my images and use the last link to link them to forums ,
https://img443.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img5087kn0.jpg
but that is one of your links when i looked at the properties
if you need any parts for that bike i may know someone that has quite a lot of stuff (his is the 900)...
it also looks like the swingarm may be pretty rotten, would you be interested in a braced arm ?? ____________________ it ain't broke...
i ain't fixed it enough |

Nozb. You're an absolute legend, I'll use a different site to host now, too confusing for me
Matt, I'll drop you a message when we need the shot blasting done. You gem.
NiteMare, very interested in the braced arm, not sure when though as funds are tight at the moment and the bike's not ours yet.
Steve, unlucky, you were supposed to bring the divvy up here, it's your fault Yeh left outside for one whole and winter and untill the next autumn where it was bought inside and left to rot basically.
Matt you make me lolz about the 'leccy tape ____________________ wizzzard wrote: Imagine God just stopping by, tidying your front room up and then quietly letting himself out again. Statisticly more likely to happen than Korn being on here. |

Well a picture speaks a thousand words and all that so didn't bother posting anything untill I had more photographic evidence. Been working on the engine in my spare time where I work at Bridge motorcycles. The guys have all been a top bunch and helping me out whenever I get stuck. Got the rocker cover off, head and barrels off and sump off as well.
The sump was disgusting, it regurgitated a load of congealed grey sludgey watery mixture of crap and it blocked the oil strainer so there was no way oil could circulate round the rest of the motor. Plan now is to completely strip the box and split the crankcases and give everything a bloody clean as well as grinding the valves in and new piston rings.
Enough chatting, more photos to amuse the simple minds among us

All me bits so far laid out on the bench, the head and barrels are on the bench behind.

Top of one of my pistons. Should clean up nicely.
https://img142.imageshack.us/img142/4257/img4034wl0.jpg
Clutch and alternator exposed. My friend tried to operate the clutch release mechanism with a pair of molegrips and in the process broke it so I'm going to have sort that out. Bloody monkey

Oil sump all nice and clean and sparkly.

Head and gasket, ready for removal of valves and grinding in.

Barrels ready for a good old clean, de-greaser attacked and a fresh coat of VHT paint. ____________________ wizzzard wrote: Imagine God just stopping by, tidying your front room up and then quietly letting himself out again. Statisticly more likely to happen than Korn being on here. |
