Hi

Further to this thread, how many years riding experience and miles had you before you did your test?

For me about 21 months and about 25000 miles.

All the best

Keith

I'd been driving a car for a year, and I did approximately 18 months and about 10,000 miles on my NS125 when I did my A1 (restricted) test. I then ran a restricted VFR400 NC21, and for the last few months of my restriction a derestricted SV650.

Which, I think is a sensible route. I certainly didn't buy a sports 600 or R1 in my first three and a bit years of riding...

1 year and about 6/7k miles.

Marjay if you had an A1 licence you where riding the VFR illegally, an A1 licence lets you ride up to a 125cc without L plates and is taken on a bike with a cc less than 120. An A2 licence lets you ride any size but you are restricted to 33bhp for 2 years.

Only those miles which I did on the DA course - probably no more than 500.

I had been driving for the thick end of 10 years though, and probably racked up 175k in that time.

Still, after the GS500, the next bike I jumped on was a SRAD600.

Erm about 15 months and 8,000 miles probably. Can't really remember too well but it was around those figures.

10 months on a twist and go and 5 months on my City Fly 125. Probably did about 4,000 miles on each bike I think. Maybe more on the 125 as I was commuting a bit more. Pasted with 0 minors first time. Never driven a car on the road.

City fly finished up ith 11,000 miles added by me, and current bike has 12,000 added by me. So by April I will have had bikes 3 years and done 27,000 + miles.

I did a 5 day das including cbt as day 1 and passed first time. (was supposed to be full DAS but basically i sucked, so stayed on the 125 and did the restricted test)

I had also done another CBT 2 years prior but never ended up getting a 125, so after that expired i just spur of the moment booked the full course.

No prior experience on the road on bike or car.

3 lessons!

Had been driving on the road for 7 years in a car though.

I was quite surprised how little knowledge of the the road is actually required to pass the bike test. I suspect that had I not of been driving for years and just gone straight into biking I would of definitely of had an accident by now due to lack of observation and planning.

I suppose it's a lot harder to teach on a motorcycle as the riding instructor is unable to see all your reactions to what is going on around you, unlike a car instructor.

cbt and gpr50 at 16, passed car test at 17 so bike was rarely used as I went down the fast cars route. Came back to the 50 on and off for the odd summer for a bit of fun. (no cbt required as only classed as moped) Was finally in a position this yr to a) have somewhere to keep a bike b) afford lessons and test c) afford a sportsbike as well as the car
Thumbs Up

About 2 miles and ~5 minutes on my brothers Superdream that I'd just helped fix.

I didn't even have a lid on, let alone gloves or proper boots, things ye do as a lad eh? Wound up always wanting a bike after that, I just never seemed to have the motivation till the rumors of the test changes started floating about. Then bam, ZZR on the drive and a DAS booked that week Laughing

Best impulsive decision I've ever made Thumbs Up
