How long should a full tank of fuel last on a 50cc scooter (Aprilia sonic GP), I filled it up on sunday and i'm on low on tuesday, I only drove to mates house about 10-15 miles away, then work monday, tuesday and i'm low. Could it be a carb problem or is the technigas exhaust drinking more fuel. My mates 100cc peugeot lasted all week on 4-5 quid.

Any suggestions?

You should really be getting at least 50mpg.

Check for fuel leaks? Peer into the fuel tank after leaving it overnight and see if its drained out.

Another theory could be that your vacuum tap is faulty, letting fuel out of the tank for no apparent reason.

Well it has to go somewhere... try and find it Shocked

I dont know on scooters i never had one, usually at the bottom of the tank, but i cannot be more specific as i dont know anything about scooter tanks.

Lets hope someone with knowledge of your bike knows, details will help.

Someone like binge or the other kid in the know.

Could it be that the bikes warm when i fill up and cold in morning?

I can't seem to find a leak but could it be evaporating?

No.

Lets see if i can explain it properly,

The vacuum tap works by the engine turning over and sucking fuel out of the tap basically through a one way valve, that is spring loaded to close when it is not being sucked open.

Divuk is the person you need apparently.

Choke shouldnt make any difference. There should be an overflow pipe from the carb that would be directed towards the floor (hopefully).

Wouldn't it be flooding if the tap is letting fuel through when it should be off

Of course it would make a difference. Check the choke is not on, check on the carb, not just on the bars. It might be sticking on.

You can tell when the choke is on because it stalls when ticking over when warm if you put the choke on

Shocked All the choke does is restrict the airflow and pull the throttle cable.

It has no effect wotsoever on the fuel line or the tank.

It stalls as the mixture (when warm) is wrong, and it basically floods it and it stops.

A bike that is run with the choke on uses considerably more fuel than when it is run without the choke on. That is a fact.

So if it was letting fuel through when it shouldn't be, it would come out of my overflow, which it isn't, so does that mean i'm loosing it somewhere else? Neutral

A bike that is run with the choke on stops after 5 minutes more like as the spark plug is covered in carbon.

I would do some tests. Get a more clear view of the tank by removing body panels etc. You could always just fit a manual tap in the fuel line but it will be a bit difficult to use.

Not true. A choke adds fuel to the mixture, normally used to aid cold starting. Chokes can sometimes stick on which make the bike run rich. Just because a bike runs rich doesn't mean that it will cut out after 5 minutes, and even if it did cut out, it wouldn't be because the plug was 'covered in carbon', it would be because it's flooding. Basic mechanics, learn it.
