PostPosted: 18:48 - 12 Mar 2009    Post subject: CPI GTR 50.....HELP!? Reply with quote

Recently bought a CPI GTR 50 and it started off by starting fine
recently been having problems with what i think is the battery
i first got the problem when i noticed the 'low battery' symbol flashing when i put my keys in
however, after charging the battery..i only get this notice when i am in the process of starting the bike up (it is an electric start up if that makes any difference)
the bike does nto start up
any suggestions?
appreciated...thanks

How are you testing the sparkplug?

testing the spark by unscrewing it
keeping it connected to the ignition side
and then trying to start the engine
no spark is seen
does this suggest that it is faulty?
or will it be something to do with the cable that it is connected to?

I'm unsure what you mwan by 'ignition side' but when you unscrew the plug put the cap on like you would if it was still in the engine. touch the earth electrode to the outer edge of the barrel and try it. If no spark is seen after this it would suggest to me that either the HT lead is knackered or the coil has packed up, it could be something as simple as water in the system, spray WD40 over the electrics to disperse any water =]

spark plug now working as i used the earth as you suggested
now that i have realised that the spark plug could it be due to the fuel that my bike is not starting?
if not...any suggestions (again)?
thanks

what did the spark look like? was it quite feeble? if it was quite strong then double check all of the electrical connections are clean and tight. one thing you could try is take the fuel cap off when you try and start it, i read somewhere that if the breather in the cap gets blocked it can stop the fuel getting to the carb (something to do with vacuums i think)

now think that it is somethink to do with the carburetor
there seems ot be some sort of airlock or something along them lines
how do i check for this?
is there a simple way as the carb itself is quite tricky to get to
thanks

If you have and inline fuel filter with a clear casing see if theres any fuel in there, apart from that the only thing I can tell you will definately work is to take the fuel in pipe off the carb and see if any comes out =]

I've never worked on one of these before, but it sounds like there may have been water in the carb if its fine now, see if you can get a workshop manual for it, then you can have it as a reference =]
