This was my GSX1400 after 46k miles, five winters and lack of care ...

https://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b9/BanditsHigh/GSX14-Stripdown002.jpg

As you can see it was in a pretty dire state ... therefore decided to spend money and time getting her back to looking the way she should.

Even worse was to come during the stripdown, was pretty depressing I can tell you ...

So off went the frame and wheels for blasting and powder coating, and this is the result (other set of wheels done in black for the black/red bodywork) ...

Before ...

After ...

Built myself a blasting cabinet and have prepared some bits and pieces for subsequent painting or polishing ...

Before and after blasting ...

Polished the stainless steel exhaust system up and it's turned out not too bad ...

https://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b9/BanditsHigh/GSX1400002.jpg

Also gave the top yoke and associated bits a quick polish, including the black anodised bits which are better than they were before ...

I've still a long way to go but I'm getting there slowly but surely ... will post my progress as it happens Thumbs Up

Been having various problems here and there but will work through them one at a time, the current one is that the compression damping adjusters in lower fork leg are stuck solid Sad

Engine will be getting a full strip/rebuild, together with a new gearbox to fix the fecked 2nd gear ... may also blast/repaint it.

All the best ... Barry

Good project, really interested in this one! The work you've done so far is spot on!

I'd say definately blast and paint the engine if it's gonna be apart anyway... you may as well!

In all fairness why wasn't it cleaned and looked after for those 5 years ?

Its not like its that hard to do a little preventive maintenance here and there.

And the state of those wheels D: its heresy.

My rf600r was a piece of shit but it still got a clean here and there and looked after.

You are an evil man.

Now turbo that bike.

^^^ Simple explanation mate ... five years of being used every day to/from work, being used throughout the winter and finally sitting outside since I did not have a garage ... didn't matter if I cleaned it, as the next morning it'd be manky again.

Now have 10 litres of Muc-Off sitting waiting to keep it clean, that and it'll never be used as a daily grunt machine again Thumbs Up

Very impressive so far. Thumbs Up

Would be interested in seeing your blasting cabinet. Thinking of making one myself.

Nice work fella, shame to let it get in that state in the first place, but at least your doing something about it, clearly a bike that gets used as it was made to.

Thanks for all the feedback Thumbs Up

Blasting media is ally oxide 60/80 grit, compressor is an Adli special 2.5HP 25L ... bigger compressor would be better, but we always want them bigger don't we Wink
