|
So yeah, as above...
My girlfriends father backed into my motorcycle with his 4x4 toyota today. -.- In all fairness, he didn't see it. It was parked behind the truck and he forgot it was there, so he reversed out and hit it. -.-
Damage is:
- Bent Forks
- Bent Handlebars
- Bent Subframe
- Bent Frame
- Twisted Front Fairing... With a nice large scratch
- Bent Front Fairing Mount
- Chipped Screen
- Fubared Indicator
- Screwed Sidestand
- Incredibly scratched Silencer
- Snapped Speedo Cable... It worked before, didn't after, no idea how it broke though...
So yeah, he said he'd pay for the damage but i'm just thinking, wouldn't the insurance company just write it off? Wouldn't it just be easier to claim on the insurance and just get the £££ of the insurance company?
What do you guys think?
And no, it's not a case of "Grab a roll of gaffa tape and it'll be as good as new!"

What bike is it? year condition etc. I'm guess 50/125 judging by the damage. ____________________ An 11 is a 10 that makes breakfast in the morning.

Ok, well before claiming as this is your girlfriends father talk it through with him telling him estimates of the repairs etc and come out like "It was an accident and it would probably be easier for the insurance to pay rather than out your own pocket as that's why the insurance is there."
Don't go off claiming without talking it with him as if you were to get married etc you may have some awkward silence with you and him around a christmas tree in many years to come.
Bottom line, you don't want a grudge just your bike back up' ____________________ 2008 Gilera DNA 50> 2008 Kymco KR125 > MOD1 04/08/10 > MOD2 10/08/10 > Scouting for a new bike |

It's a 1997 Kawasaki GPZ500s D3 model.
Fun Fun Fun. I did tell him it would cost alot and I hadn't even looked at the bike yet. I walked out the house and heard someone tell my missus that I didn't look happy... She said "No shit, his bikes on the floor." hahaha. |

Shit! that is a hell of a lot of damage. The bike is probably worth what £800? It will cost far more than that to fix. I would talk it through with him if he wants to pay for it buy a similar bike then sell the old one on ebay and give him the cash from that. ____________________ An 11 is a 10 that makes breakfast in the morning.

It's insured for £750.
So since the damage cost is going to be above 2/3 they just write it off I believe? If it's written off, do the insurance company just send you a check or something? (Never had a bike written off before, I'm a fan of bodge jobs and welding personally, but it's a bit too fubared.)
My thoughts were to go through the insurance, get the £££ if they decide not to fix it, and to then get a nicer bike with the cash... hahaha... oh, and to never let him forget about it, he's one of them blokes that you just can't resist reminding him about something.
When he ran it over he took me down the pub for a quick drink as an "Oh shit, sorry mate, here... have a pint to cheer you up." |

Reframing a bike is very expensive. I doubt there are any bikes that wouldn't be written off with a bent frame. ____________________ An 11 is a 10 that makes breakfast in the morning.

It's going through the insurance...
He's absolutly gutted. Haha.
His boss apparently hasn't stopped taking the mickey since he got into work this morning. So yeah... He's not happy.
I'm just worried that I won't get much £££ for the bike, I reckon they're going to write it off. |

It is HIS RESPONSIBILITY to check where he is going.......
There could have been someone stood there loading the truck....
What did he do drive over it, as well as hiting it.....
If you claim on your ins, you will loose a % of your no claims. Be loaded for the next few years....
So you will end up well out of pocket.
So don't even contact them till you have spoken to him... Even just telling them will get it noted and risk a price hike.
Even though you are supposed to tell them anyway.
How you take it forward is going to depend on how much he is prepared to pay.
Best option would be to see if you can find a like for like bike as a replacement. THen let him pay for that....
As looking at your list, even going ebay for 2nd hand is going to cost as much. ____________________ Just because my bike is DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

If its insured for £750, and its only worth that, aren't you better off getting him to pay you directly? Even if it's only £600, you will still be saving money because of the insurance premiums you will receive! ____________________ Currently Riding - 2006 Scorched Yellow Triumph Daytona 675 |

He will be paid out from the cars insurance, will have little effect on his own, and little effect on the car insurance if full NCB and protected. ____________________ Fallen Angel "Nae sniffing my seat now!!!!! "

I reversed into my (now) ex girlfriends dads new FZ6 S2
repairs only cost about £300 and I hit it at about 5-10mph
so he musta been going abit faster than that to do that damage ____________________ Previous Bike: ZXR 400

Sounds like he floored it into reverese, then run over it a few times for good measure, has he ever commented on how much he hates your bike and how you can never ever take his Daughter out on it? |

But errrr, how would the frame, subframe, forks and handlebars all get bent just from the bike being backed into and presumably knocked over? ____________________ 98 Honda Firestorm for £1999ono (you should buy this bike) |

The bike is scrap, bent frame does that.
If you go through the insurance you'll both get a loading in future - him from having a claim against him, you from having made a claim. Perverse as it is, having made a claim makes you a higher risk.
Try and get the £750 off him and buy a new bike. Strip the existing one for parts. ____________________ Muzza - I once fell asleep in the large fridge in Somerfield when hungover. Was found by my supervisor snuggled behind the milk trolley. |

Hi
Get someone to do a proper quote on it.
Bikes fall over all the time without bending just about every structural part so I would be very surprised if the frame / forks were bent (forks twisted in the yolks certainly, but easy to sort).
As it is with a value of about £750 I suspect any of bent forks, bent frame or wrecked exhaust on their own would write it off as far as an insurance company is concerned, let alone all together.
All the best

"In all fairness he didn't see it"
Lmao. He shouldn't have a licence if he can't see a huge fucking motorcycle when he's reversing, if he can't take the time to check for a motorbike then I feel sorry for the poor kid(s) he ends up killing.
On topic though, make him pay for it all and then some. ____________________ Doug97 wrote: Fuck you, what they did was awesome. You just wish you had the balls to be like them, instead of being constantly afraid that there's a rule somewhere out there you might be breaking. |

The Almighty Keith has spoken... And this shall be the law. .
My insurers have a company called BLD on the case. (Bikers Legal Defence.) They're dealing with the repairs and hire bike and what not... So hopefully, fingers crossed, the hire bike should arrive tomorrow morning. |
