My GS 125 needs the timing setting up and I have no idea how to.

Anyone got a manual or know where the marks are?

At the moment it turns over with loads of compression and then huge backfire. Is the came 90 degrees or 180 degrees out or what?

Please help asap.

Thanks

right,
1,
set the bike to tdc.
to do this you need to remove the little cap on the side of the crank case, and the one directly below it (to turn the crank)
turn the crank over by hand untill in the top hole you see the timing mark
it will be marked with a " T| " the | will match up with a little notch in the top of the hole, you bike is now at top dead center,

2.
setting the cam in the right position.
get the cam and place it in the head with the lobes facing down (if its a rocker arm system) and the 2 - - marks on the cam sprocket running parallel to the angle of the head or the line of the holder that the cam sits in,
put the chain in place and release the tensionor
that bottom mark T| and the 2 - - marks should be still in the same place.

if the cam moved when you released the tensionor, the slip it back a tooth and try again,

once you are confident every thing is lined up, put the cam caps in place and bolt up the head,
then turn the bike over by hand from the crank, it should hit anything.

when you have done that, check the clearances on the rocker arms and adjust them.
and you are good to go,

have fun Mr. Green

I think he probably meant the new "van-van" (I'm assuming it still uses the RV model name) which is a four stroke, wouldn't suprise me if suzuki used the same basic 4t 125 engine in all 3 bikes.

Well we managed to get it in the end.

The cam shaft in this engine has no such markings. Pictures soon in GBC.

Nothing on there apart from a dowel which lined up with the cam shaft so it could only go one way onto that.

I vaguely remember this. I think CHRI5 came over and we took the head off the engine for some reason.
