Hello everyone, sorry for not posting but i was miserable as fook for not passing my mod 2 last month. Ive now passed but realised its a A2 category. Im 27 and passed on a CG125 with another lad who was 20, the instructor said it will be ok for me as im over 21 to pass and ride my zx6r unrestricted if i pass on a 125.

Not that i care too much, ill ride the zx6r anyway but i just thought it was a little dodgy. Any ideas from you guys?

The instructor is wrong. If you do the A2 test then you're restricted to 33bhp for two years, regardless of your age.

Feck, ok....

Who would know about the restricted license(ie DVLA, Police, Insurance) and whats stopping me from riding the 6 unrestricted?

edit: Not one insurer i phoned asked about the licence nor to see any paperwork relating to my licence.

2nd edit: what would you do, i told the instructor i wanted to ride my 600 and he turned up with 125s saying its ok?

its a really weird area of the law about bikes.

have a search on here for 33bhp and see what people say.

but basically there are a few schools of thought

- Ride a bike over 33bhp as its a law that is not enforced enough because a lot of police do not know it, if asked then it is under 33bhp and have a fake certificate to confirm this. in case of a crash then probably be fucked but hope they dont check for restriction.

- Have a bike restricted to be in complete compliance with the law, then nothing to worry about.

pick one of the above.

the insurance company should know if it is restricted, but it doesnt usually lower the price and they dont always ask for proof or even ask about it all. the police should also know, but some dont.

there may be a few things ive missed out but thats the general idea. because of your age you are probably a bit liklier to get away with riding over 33bhp as its the age that actually *can* (having done the right test of course). although it will have something written on the back of your license to show this restriction and any eagle eyed copper should notice this.

i wont say which school of thought im following as its probably a bad influence Laughing

Either:

Restrict (expensive) and ride it legally.
Get some practise in then redo your test on the bigger bike.
Just ride it, but don't get caught going over 100mph.

Or restrict (cheap) and ride it legally.

Of course don't pay FI for a restriction kit.

Thanks for the thoughts, i cant really do more than a ton anyway as I need my licence for work, a few points can be dealt with but total loss can't be.

FI sort of have the market for restriction kits, how do others restrict thier bikes without using FI?

I suppose i should show willing and investigate these fun stoppers, what sort of cash are we talking for cheap restriction?

For a lot of bikes its just washers in the carbs (if you know the dimensions...there was a list of them somewhere about I think) looking at less than a 10er especially if you have friends.

For the bandit I know it is some kind of inlet diaphragm in the carbs, which I paid 25 quid for off someone on the forum.
A lot of bikes use a throttle stop (cheap as chips) and a fair few require a new CDI which isn't quite as cheap.

Some companies make their own restriction washers I think (as in suzuki/kawasaki etc) although I am under the impression they are not that easy to get hold of.
