I have found a love for 30's 40's music after playing extended sessions of fallout.

Anyone into such old tunage?

I think they make good sing-along songs Laughing

Also the pronunciation seems to be really good, in "Anything Goes" you can actually hear the t's in little.

Not to mention butcher pete!

Been listening to Anita O'Day... pretty good if you ask me

Connie Francis (50's)
George Gershwin (slightly before)
Stan Getz
Chet Baker (again, 50's)

Mostly 50's stuff just now but I am working my way back, so good thread. Not sure what sort of music Fallout 'has' on it though so I may be well off Laughing

Thumbs Up Karma

Puttin' on the ritz 1946

Found the original 1929 version if you're interested.

Loved this song as a kid. It now reminds me of being a nipper at my Nins house.

I got some 78's from the 1920's-1950's. The older ones are like listening to history.

The attached file was played to my PC using a 1950's record player...

This isn't old, infact it's this year but it's a dance track sampling some oldskool trumpets.

Bix Beiderbecke would be the correct spelling. He's a bit before the OP's time, though, as he died in 1931. Yes, I can bore anyone to death about Bix, who is my all time favourite jazz musician.

This is him at his prime, playing Singin' The Blues in 1927. Often imitated, never bettered, even by Louis Armstrong, who was a huge Bix fan btw. Bix's solo is the second of the three minutes, and is often referred to as the magical minute of jazz, cornet solos really do not get better than that.

Ah, the inimitable Gene Krupa. Quite revolutionary for 1937.

Man, I love this era!

For lyrics, btw, the OP could do worse than check out any recordings of Cole Porter's works, such as 'You're the Top', where the object of his love is compared to anything from Shakespeare's Sonnet to Pepsodent via a Turkey Dinner. Laughing

The ones to look out for in the 'easy listening' section would be Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Irving Berlin (composers), Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra (singers), Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller (band leaders).

I see you Billie Holiday and raise you Bessie Smith (another gem from 1929 & 1927).
