Had the Honda CG done in metallic Black, turned out very well for a spray can job, unfortunately the Halfrauds Laquer turned out to be not so petrol proof.

Big circular stain on the tank now, was wondering can I give the tank afew more coats of the original coloured paint?

Fully aware it won't be a factory perfect finish or anything but throwing afew more coats on seems easier that sanding it all down again. (Wonder if I'll be saying that when it starts to peel off Laughing )

Could I just Sand down the current coat to make it as smooth as I can and then Spray over it?

Just trying to get as much info on the options I have, not too concerned about doing at soon as its winter and I don't have a garage to do said spraying in so I'll wait till the Summer either way.

Spraying paint onto laquer gives a terrible finish that isn't petrol proof, will peel off and won't match anyway. They do a petrol proof laquer, but it takes a week or so to become fuel proof, even then it's only splash proof.

I'd sand down the laquer with some 400, then 800 grit, then spray it with petrol proof laquer. Your taking a chance on it reacting badly (make sure it's 110% dry before spraying!) but i'd chance it.

Only thing being is I'am not too sure if the stain is the buggered laquer or the paint is gone underneath as well? Suppose theres only one way to find out Sad

If it's gone white it's the laquer.

Buffing is polishing. If you sand then buff, the paint won't stick, it'll be like spraying a non stick frying pan Wink
