Ran a 10.109 @ 140.14 on the Bandit at the weekend, 6.5 sec to 115.

This might be faster.

Then again you won't be riding it 130 miles to the track and back. Wink

Hookup was good, no spin in first, then again I wasn't really hard launching it. It should be a 9 second bike and there is one in there I just need to van it up incase anything goes wrong rather than riding it.

I should probably add, that is the fireblade's fastest run of the day.

The gearing is also out, need a longer first gear and aim to go through the traps in the top of 3rd.

nothing to report.

owning a car with 6 camshafts and an intermittent, unrepeatable misfire is keeping me occupied for now.

Have you got ODBII recording stuff?

I believe that with a cheap bluetooth dongle you can get software that will log a decent amount of data from the car - it might give you an idea of where the hiccup is coming from.

first job will be to bore the mouths to take the larger liners. then remove all the casting flashes from inside and open up the galleries between the cylinders for better balance breathing.

then remove the oil blanking plug from the lhs main gallery and tap to provide an oil feed from the bottom end to the head for that side.

im predicting that opening up the mouths will cut through the oil galleries on both sides so i'll tap and grub screw them so its totally dry blocked.

Chris, sorry for the noob question, but are you going to run external oil feed lines from the main gallery to the head? And if so will the drain down channels be back through the block into the sump?

I'm not very clued up on the oil cooled Suzuki engine architecture.

yes. from the main gallery into the ends of the rocker shafts.

the rocker shafts are split (because of the cam tunnel in the centre) so there will be 4 lines in total.

stevo as b4 wrote:

yes. there are several routes for drain, 2 large tubes running between the head and block carry the majority of the oil from the jets which blow oil onto the combustion chamber roofs. obviously the cam chain tunnel, and also 2 small passageways which allow oil to run down the two centre front studs and back into the top of the crankcase (never understood the added complexity of them)

other than the cutting through the galley in the block because of the large liners, it also means i dont have to worry about sealing the copper gasket from pressurized oil, which is added complexity because the stock head gasket is a different thickness to the one i'm using.

anyway, moving on;

removed the rest of the studs and dowels tonight.

great success.

ready for the next step.

because of the way the crankcase is cast, there isn't complete location of the liners in the case, which makes centering up on the bores interesting.

what i'll probably do is machine a boring plate which locates using the two dowels in the case and means i can clock up the bore centers dead easy. also means i can probe the face to make sure its dead level with the bed.

Still more Liner seating area in the cases than a damp block Rover K-series though!

Is your new block a wet or dry liner set up BTW?
Oh and while I'm firing questions, do you think a big capacity turbo build like this could used plated or ceramic coated bores safely, or would it not take the cylinder pressures?

Just had to give your last work in progress post here a Thumbs Up I can't remember if I've done that for other posts in this thread, but it deserves more than one, for all the work that's gone into it.

its funny you say that.

i couldn't remeber how long i'd been doing this, so i had a look at the first post. 4 years, 3 months.

amuses me that when i started the thread, i'd never even taken a motorbike engine to bits, couldn't weld, couldn't use cad and only had a very basic knowledge of turning / milling.
