Easiest way to upload pics is to put them on photobucket or similar and just link to them here.
That's what I usually do unless it's a very small pic

My current trusty steed, been with me now for around 8 months and has thus far thrashed any local competition. Much win. Since photo was taken the frame + exhaust have been repainted and new arrow- shape indicators put on back.

I've always wanted to ride a CBF125 and see how it compares to it's pre-decessour.
I think I would be impressed, and the person trying out my CG would be in dismay. ____________________ CBT: 12/06/10, Theory: 22/09/10, Module 1: 09/11/10, Module 2: 19/01/11

I can tell you that, compared to the YBR (my previous bike which is similar enough to the CG, which I did my CBT on, in most aspects)...
The riding position is different - your legs are tucked in more, you sit a bit higher and lean forwards a little. It feels less 'relaxed ' than the YBR/CG, almost like you're 'commanding' the road. Sounds funny, I know. It's still very comfy over long journeys (I do 30 miles each way 5 days a week). Almost feels smoother but that might just be because it's a new bike and I was comparing it to one that had just done shy of 40'000 miles. The wider seat means your legs are spread apart more, which I prefer, but for the smaller rider, that might not be a good thing.
Everything else is a lot more modern, you have a lot of 'big bike' stuff - removable pillion seat, an excellent headlight, million times better than the CG/YBR in every way. Halogen bulb as standard and it's a proper pinned fitting (H1/H4 etc) rather than a bayonet which gets corroded terminals and goes flickery with the revs/vibes (a problem on the YBR if you didn't keep it clean). The headlamp reflector is better and lights up a good portion of the road as well. Running lights (headlamp/tail/aux/dash backlights) are powered from the alternator, not the battery (which does indicators, dash status lights and the brake light). This is really good for the battery IMO and puts much less stress on it. Bulbs are easy to change - you remove the holders themselves from the backs of the housings rather than taking lenses off from the front. You have an actual fuse box as well as a main fuse. The electrics seem better 'done' - switches and connectors are covered up with gaiters in a lot of areas.
Nissin twin pot calliper on the front brake, which has good stopping power and is easy to service. I've also noticed that it performs very well in the rain.
Then you have fuel injection which is a bit of a mixed bag - SHOULD be zero maintenance but many with 10 and 11 CBF's (including me) have had issues pertaining to a faulty batch of fuel pumps. Fixed under warranty though. No carb to fiddle with but then the YBR's carb didn't require much work either. It's more akin to diagnosing computer problems when it does come to it. More complication and possibly more expense to fix. More a case of replacing a faulty sensor than adjusting something. But you do get 130mpg out of this bike (check out my blog - www link at the bottom - and the Fuelly bit - I've been monitoring it).
People have reported problems with corrosion on these bikes - namely the exhausts rotting fairly quickly. To be fair, my YBR's exhaust suffered a lot but that was the last 3 winters it had to deal with. I would replace it with a stainless unit once it goes though. As for the rest of the bike, various bits are reported to suffer but I haven't had the long term use out of it to be able to comment. I do use ACF-50 in the winter though. There are also reports of some parts being hard to get, being made in India and having some kind of shortage. The likes of Wemoto do stock a good selection and eBay seems to have a healthy amount as well.
Tyres - '09 and '10 CBF125's shipped with TVS tyres as standard - awful, slippery crap, especially lethal in the wet. '11 models have Conti Go!'s now which are really good, almost on a par with Michelin Pilot Sporty's. They handle well in the wet. Problem is the weird sizes - makes tyres a bit hard to get hold of and a lot of manufacturers don't produce these sizes. 80/100-17 front and 100/90-17 rear. |
