Got my new bike insured today, policy starts on the 26th same day I pick up the bike. Do I need to wait for my insurance documents to ride it home or can I just tell the bike shop I am insured?

They'll want proof.

Get insurance to email certificate and print it.

If its a new bike with any sort of finance then they will want proof. If its a second hand cash buy they won't give a toss.

Thumbs Up

Unless they are taxing it for you they won't give a damn.

It's an offence for them to let you ride away on their bike without insurance, but once it's your bike, it's not their responsibility.

Worst case, write them a letter stating that, and saying that you are insured, then ask them if they want your money or not.

Who are you insured with? No chance you can get a certificate downloaded or emailed to you? Technically, you're not insured until a certificate is in your possession (printed or electronic) or available to you online.

Also: what bike, and MOAR PICSHURS. Wink

[UPDATE] Oh, it's a Piaggio. NO PICSHURS!

When I picked up my brand new CBF125 from a Honda dealership, they wanted to see my insurance certificate before they let me ride away on it.

Printed certificate from email will do just fine, this is the way it's done now.

When I picked my used ER-6 though, they didn't ask for any proof of insurance - not even mentioned it once.

In both cases they taxed the bikes on their insurance.

Spoke to insurance company today, I am on the system and insured from 00:01 26th October which is the same day I pick the bike up. The shop I am buying from said I only need to take my license and cbt cert with me.

Pictures will come on Friday.

I went with Devitt as they had the best deal, they are posting the details today.
