After searching round a few and noticing the downfalls of each, limited record time, limited battery life, vibration etc I think I may have found a solution,

A camera that....
when plugged in via the ciggy socket continous battery
over writes the data on the memory card, giving continous recording (until an event you want to save)
has a visual display to see what your recording
is water resistant
well priced for what it is

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-HD-720P-Helmet-Sport-Bullet-Camera-DVR-Waterproof-/200608951804?pt=Camcorders_Professional_Video_Cameras&hash=item2eb539adfc

heres the footage
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dz8eo3tWObc

No need for comments about the riding........I've cut out the dodgy stuff LOL
Main unit is the size of a mobile phone (car charger & data card not inc in listing)

Your footage looks much better than that on the ebay page at least.

Have you tried it at night?
Often cheaper ones suffer really badly in the dark.

How do the pins stand up that connect the camera to the main unit. They look very thin, and easily damaged if you have to keep removing the main unit.

These are also avaiable from the UK, but @ £180 ish

I bid £102 delivery free and won one bid, I asked about customs costs and seller wasnt specific, so I just winged it and no problems!

That has been an issue I left the lens attached to the bike threaded throu the panels until today (see next post) and attached the lens daily no problems!

You can delete in situ from the main unit quite easily or very quickly with the card in a computer

I found out that the lens is not totally sealed, i found this out when I used it today in the rain.

a small amount of water got underneath the lens, I dried it out in the airing cupboard then took apart the lens to clean the inside, put it back together & it still works!! Thumbs Up

Below is a video of the highest resolution setting, although it maybe the day was more overcast but I cant see the difference??
& some night footage (albeit taped to the mirror of the car as i had already removed it from the bike & it was tucked away for the night!

Well sorry but due to you not keeping your head still..... Its very hard to judge quality. Only managed to pick out one reg plate from all the cars in the clip..... Not very good I'm afraid in that instance.

Try a fixed mount for the cam.....

It may be the very same one I bought on my first attempts to get video, tiny thing about the size of a lighter, but as mentioned the movement is annoying ad I found it was aways difficult to get the aim exactly right, plus the fact the maximum storage on the 8 gb card was 2 hours

That was my first ride with it just to see what it was like.

Yeah, but in the video that Eggs Benedict posted, you couldn't even see one plate.

However, the big advantages to the other camera are being able to do a continuous recording and it keep fully charged when plugged into the bike.

at 0.05 Thumbs Up
after that my speed was alledgely in excess of the national speed limit

For me being able to make out reg numbers isnt that important, I will however take some footage at lower speeds!

Right on the highest resolution the clips are saved in 10 minutes segments each 260MB so a 8GB card holds approx 5 hours of footage

on the second highest resolution clips are saved in 30 minute segments each 260 MB so it would record approx 15 hours footage on the same 8GB card

Any joy sealing your lens up yet? I contacted a company who said
Quote:
the camera is waterproof as long as the outer lens is on nice and tight then it should not leak.

Does that ring true with you at all?

Brilliant Thumbs Up

Gotta admit, if I had the money I'd love a camera that continuously records just for things like that.
