I have long periods of non-activity at work right now and having an ebook reader on my phone I'd like to download some books to while the time away.

Where can I find a catalogue of cheap or free ebooks for browse/download?

Dunno if the free trial period is over yet, but audible.co.uk had some freebie audio books available recently

and as suggested, there are other alternative routes to get them too...

Awesome sauce, well reminded. Don't forget to snaffle up all the H.G. Wells, including Little Wars: a game for boys from twelve years of age to one hundred and fifty and for that more intelligent sort of girl who likes boys' games and books. Wink

Take a look at https://calibre-ebook.com/ when you get a few books.
One of its big features is the ability to convert between various formats.

If you have an Android phone, fbreader can fetch books from places like Gutenburg, Smashwords and Feedbooks for you pretty seamlessly. If you can't get it for your phone you can still download the books straight from those sites and pop them on your memory card yourself.

It's definitely worth trawling these sites as there are some books that are past copyright stage yet places like Kindle still charge for them, so you can save a couple of pounds.
