Thanks for the link. From the quick look I gave it, it doesn't seem to mention bikes. I'm currently in Australia, so difficult to call. Can anyone else offer any info?

Nerd mode:

Actually both licence and license are correct, but have different uses. License is a verb and licence is a noun.

I hereby license you to ride a bike and present you with a shiney new bike licence.

From watching Cop programs I believe you are allowed to for 6 months then you have to get a UK/EU licence.

from the interactive guide:

Quote:

Driving licences issued in any other country

you can drive any small vehicle eg cars and or motorcycles, shown on your driving licence, for a period of 12 months from the date that you last entered the country, as long as it remains full and valid

you can only drive larger vehicles eg lorries and buses, shown on your licence, that have been registered outside of GB which you have driven into the country

[indignant pedant enabled]

I know - the use here is as a noun, hence the 'c'. In US English, the noun uses an s as well as the verb.

Thanks for the info so far. One thing that might be a problem. I have both a New Zealand and US full motorcycle licence, but I also sti ll hold a UK licence with no motorcycle endorsment. I haven't been in the UK for 23 years, but the licence is one of the old ones thats good for 75 years. I assume its still valid, and if so maybe cancels out me using one of my foriegn ones?
